SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A U.S. Navy sailor from the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier was injured on his ship Friday.The sailor was struck by a towed aircraft on the flight deck around 6:30 p.m.A Navy news release reported the sailor was flown to Scripps Hospital in La Jolla for treatment. The sailor's injuries are not life-threatening.The USS Carl Vinson is conducting a training exercise off the coast of Southern California. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An arrest has been made in the death of a teenager found dead in a Rancho Bernardo street last March.San Diego Police say Angel Ramirez, 19, of Escondido, was arrested Wednesday in connection with the death of a 16-year-old male on March 7, 2019.The teenage victim was found just before midnight lying in the middle of the street in the 16800 block of Cresta Dr. Police said despite life-saving efforts, the teen died at the scene. Based on the evidence collected, it appeared the teen had died as a result of a traffic accident.RELATED: Man found dead in middle of Rancho Bernardo streetThe Medical Examiner's officer, however, ruled the teen's death as a homicide and not caused by a traffic incident. Police didn't elaborate on the cause of death.Investigators say their case led to the identification of Ramirez, who was arrested and charged with first degree murder. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego resident is one of three patients across California infected with salmonella linked to an herbal supplement.The 44-year-old resident is the latest patient in the multi-state outbreak, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Service Agency.The supplement, kratom, is used as a stimulant and opioid substitute. It's also known as thang, kakuam, thom, ketom, biak, and Mitragyna speciosa, according to county health officials.RELATED: 28 sick in salmonella outbreak linked to kratom, CDC saysThe San Diego patient fell ill in January but has since recovered. They were not hospitalized, officials said.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has identified at least 40 cases of salmonellosis in 27 states. Fourteen patients have been hospitalized. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A verdict has been reached in the trial of a former Yuma Police officer accused of raping his then-wife's cousin in 2017.Jurors found 34-year-old Jared Elkins guilty of four felony counts, including forcible rape and sexual penetration by force. Elkins was found not guilty, however, on four similar counts involving an intoxicated victim."I'm extremely pleased with this jury and their verdicts," said Deputy District Attorney Lisa Fox."The fact that he was a law enforcement officer and carried a weapon was significant for the victim in this case she believed that he would carry through with these threats and why she was so afraid of him," argued Fox.Elkins was taken into custody without bail following the reading of the verdict.
