SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was injured in a machete attack in San Diego’s Talmadge neighborhood Thursday night, San Diego Police say. According to police, the incident happened just before 7 p.m. on the 4800 block of of El Cajon Boulevard.Police say the suspect walked up to the victim, who was sitting in his car, and attacked him with the machete. RELATED: Video shows machete attack in EscondidoPolice say the suspect shattered the vehicle’s windows with his machete. The victim got out of the car and ran off. But the suspect threw the weapon at the victim. The blade hit the victim in the back as the suspect then ran away.The victim received a a 3-inch cut on the ride side of his back, and was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police are looking for the suspect. They say he was wearing a blue shirt and blue pants and ran northbound. If you have any information, you're asked to call the San Diego Police Department. 960

And it just never dawned one me to check the name just because it looked like my card. He was on his normal route, making his normal deliveries. But in an instant, Romulo Ruiz's life changed forever. "Those brackets are holding my bones together," Ruiz said in Spanish. He went from totally healthy to bedridden after a horrific workplace accident. On September 12, 2019, the mail carrier was in National City, standing behind his truck. A man suffering a seizure behind the wheel struck Ruiz and pinned him against his vehicle. The wheels behind Ruiz continued to turn until witnesses stopped the car. "We got into the other car, and put it into reverse so we can release the USPS man, and he just fell to the ground," witness Mohammed Farha said. Then they cared for Ruiz until emergency crews took him to the hospital. Two weeks later, Ruiz is at UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest, recovering from his severe injuries. "The plan is, the doctors will place brackets inside my legs rather than have them outside," Ruiz said, pointing at his legs.Doctors said the road to recovery would be a long and tough one. But they also had good news. They were able to save his legs. "Then I will have normal use of my legs," Ruiz said. The Ruiz family has set up a Gofundme account for his medical expenses. 1409

With the Golden State Warriors facing elimination tonight in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, star forward Kevin Durant plans on playing when the ball is tipped shortly after 9 p.m. ET, ESPN reported. A league source told ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski that Durant plans to play after injuring his right calf on May 8. The Warriors had no problem closing out their series against Houston before dispatching Portland without Durant, but have struggled against the Raptors, trailing 3-1 in the best-of-7 series. Officially, Durant is listed as "questionable" on the team's injury report. Even with Durant returning from injury, how many minutes he is able to play and how effective he can be is still a mystery.
