BOULDER, Colo. – A Boulder, Colorado, family says their son was stuck with a hypodermic needle while playing near a creek by the Park East Park. Now, the family is warning parents to have a talk with their children.Wade Green says his four-year-old son was on a play date with another kid when he found a needle. Green’s son picked up the needle and started playing with it. The nanny who was watching him asked the four-year-old what it was and he said it was a pH meter. It wasn’t until Green’s son made it home and showed the needle to his wife that someone realized what it was. The family lives near their pediatrician and immediately took their son to see him.“Examining him a little further, (the doctor) noticed two needle marks in his hand,” Green said. “When it happens to your own child, it’s just a heart wrenching.”So far, the four-year-old has taken two tests to see whether he has contracted a transmittable disease. He will have to undergo two more tests before being given the all-clear by doctors. This is not the only time people in the community have found needles laying around.“Two days before, a neighbor had told my wife that they had found a needle at the park east playground and they weren’t going to go there anymore because they didn’t feel like it was a safe place to take their kids,” Green said. An employee in the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives headquarters building Thursday opened a package that contained a liquid substance and the employee said she felt sick right after opening it, according to law enforcement officials.It is not clear what the substance is, one of the officials told CNN. The mail is screened off site so it is unclear if this package was delivered some other way or if it made it through screening, said one official.The headquarters in Washington, DC, was evacuated after the suspicious package was discovered.A HAZMAT crew responded to the scene and left the building shortly before 4:40 p.m. Thursday, according to April Langwell, the head of ATF Public Affairs.Langwell said that the field test of the substance is "clear" and they are sending the substance that was found in an envelope opened by an employee to a lab for further analysis. Bakersfield City Council heard from Pastor Angelo Frazier and several others on a proposal to add the nation's motto "In God We Trust" on Bakersfield Police cars. Lou’s City Bar in Washington, D.C. is getting ready for a busy weekend as football season gets underway. Manager Mark Helliwell is working on a new way to bring in more customers: legal sports betting.“We’re trying to do everything we can to create interest,” he says. “If we can turn this place into a little Caesar’s Palace on Saturday and Sundays so people don’t have go to Vegas.”He applied for a license that will allow customers to bet on games inside his bar and just posted the permit.“Put it up last night and has to stay up for 30 days before our hearing,” he explains. “Our hearing’s in October.”Legalized sports betting is quickly moving across the country.
