SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Condo and townhome sales increased more than 7 percent from April to May in San Diego County, while single-family home sales held steady, the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors reported Monday. Attached property sales increased 7.3 percent from 983 in April to 1,055 in May. Month-over-month sales of single-family homes increased by just 0.7 percent from 2,023 in April to 2,037 in May. Property sales, which plunged during the winter, have had steady increases since January. The price of single-family homes rose 1.2 percent from 2,200 in April to 0,000 in May. Overall, California ranked 21st on the list of best and worst states for military retirees. The Golden State ranked 9th for quality of life, 3rd for number of VA health facilities per number of veterans and 5th for number of VA benefits-administration facilities per number of veterans. Dragging California down to the 21st spot however, is the cost of living. The state ranked 51st for housing affordability and 49th for percent of veteran-owned businesses. California also ranked 48th for its percentage of homeless veterans and 12th for veteran job opportunities. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Caltrans is alerting San Diegans of a closure that will shut down SR-163 Wednesday and Thursday nights.According to the agency, all lanes of SR-163 will close between Interstate 8 and Genesee Avenue between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday nights.Caltrans says the northbound lanes will close Wednesday night and the southbound lanes will shut down Thursday night. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - As coronavirus cases climb, a cancer patient faces an excruciating choice: Risk the trips to San Diego for potentially life-saving treatment or not.He was the picture of health, but in 2014 at the age of 45, Bryce Olson was diagnosed with an aggressive, stage 4 prostate cancer."I couldn't believe it. No family history of prostate cancer. Exercised every day," said Olson.Various treatments have kept his cancer at bay, but eventually, it began to grow again. About 10 months ago, the Oregon man began a clinical trial at Moores Cancer Center at UCSD, including IV immunotherapy treatment."Pretty ecstatic ... I've had pretty good success on it, kept the cancer contained," said Olson.As part of the trial, he must fly in to San Diego for treatment every three weeks, a trip suddenly fraught with risk. "Uber to the airport. Being in the airport. Being in an airplane. Getting an Uber to the hospital in San Diego ... makes me super anxious. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities are investigating after an inmate died at the George Bailey Detention Facility. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were notified that an inmate identified as 63-year-old Dennis Lee Curry needed medical help inside his cell on May 11. Deputies say when they arrived, Curry complained of pain to his head and chest, but had no visible injuries. Curry was taken to a local hospital where his condition worsened and he was placed on life support before he died on the morning of May 13. Following an autopsy, it was discovered that Curry died of natural causes. The Sheriff’s Department’s homicide unit was called in to investigate, as they do with all in-custody deaths. Curry was in custody for outstanding warrants related to prior DUI and drug-related charges, according to the department. 860
