SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — It’s an online service that brings groceries right to your doorstep, but some who work for Instacart told Team 10 they are being treated unfairly.Instacart entered the San Diego market in 2016. It basically works like Uber, where people can sign up to be “shoppers” and fill orders for a fee.Jacquelyn Westby signed up for Instacart to make extra cash.“We shop for groceries and then deliver using our own vehicles, our own gas,” Westby said. She recently graduated from grad school and is looking for a job in the field of occupational therapy. Instacart helped keep her afloat as she dealt with growing bills.“This job was the difference between homeless and not. Being able to eat and not,” Westby said.Westby said Instacart changed its pay structure over the past couple months. A company spokesperson said changes were meant to improve the shopper experience, adding things like “pay per mile” and estimated earnings. Westby, however, said the new pay formula has made things worse.“Before I could easily work a four hour shift in the morning or the afternoon and make 0 [to] 0 and be done with my day,” Westby said. “Now, I’m working 12 hours a day and sometimes I’ll make upwards of . Sometimes, it’s .”She said tip is now factored into total earnings from Instacart. Westby also said while heavy pay is added for heavier items, it is not consistent.“I think it’s about the bottom dollar. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- It’s one of San Diego’s most iconic parks, but there’s a push to change its name and possibly everything it stands for.In September, two very different sides clashed at Chicano Park. The clash required police to break it up.The park is the heart of Barrio Logan and its murals are a colorful reminder of its history.Jorge Gonzales says it’s symbolic of the civil rights movement of the 70s. “These murals tell the story of the Civil Rights era. Right? That went far and beyond Barrio Logan and Chicano Park,” said Gonzales.Five people questioned that history in September at what was called the Patriotic Picnic.Police had to protect them from dozens of people who surrounded them in protest. “The murals are revolutionary. They're anti-American,” said activist Roger Ogden.Ogden was at the picnic and says political radicals and militants run Chicano Park. “It shouldn't be called Chicano Park. They could call it Hispanic Park, Latino Park and celebrate all the Hispanics and not just the militants. If you go down there and wave the US Flag, if I go down there I'm probably going to get beat up.”Ogden and several others shared the video from the picnic and their thoughts with the San Diego City Council on Tuesday.“You can celebrate the Hispanic culture but it should be broader and more inclusive. A lot of Hispanics wouldn't want to be called Chicano because it has a militant aspect to it,” said Ogden.Gonzales says the patriotic picnickers need to have a conversation with someone who understands the murals and who can translate the stories behind the paint.“I think there's a lot of miseducation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - It was an emotional day in a Southern California courtroom for the family of a murdered Army veteran.Nearly 20 people who were close to Julia Jacobson read victim-impact statements during the sentencing hearing for her killer, ex-husband Dalen Ware.Julia’s brother, Tony Jacobson, spoke exclusively with 10News reporter Jennifer Kastner. “It was kind of both a celebration to her as well as an understanding that this isn't just some random person. It really is someone that truly did touch her community, served her country and people really did love her very much. Unfortunately, [Ware] took her away from us all,” says Tony Jacobson of his own impact statement that he read in the courtroom.RELATED: Ex-husband of former Army veteran pleads guiltyWare will serve 15 years to life in prison, after pleading guilty to her murder. It was more than a year ago that the retired Army captain and her dog disappeared over Labor Day weekend.Her SUV was discovered abandoned near her home in University Heights. Ware was later arrested in Phoenix where he was living, and charged with her murder.Her remains were discovered in a shallow grave, in Riverside County. Even though Monday’s sentencing was painful, it still brought back a flood of positive memories for the Jacobson family, as they shared old stories.RELATED: Police searching for Julia Jacobson find remains“One of them that I remember so vividly just came rushing back to me. When she would laugh, she would snort a little bit which was makes it sound so embarrassing for her but it was one of her things that made her so personable,” adds Tony. What's next for the Jacobsons remains unclear.“I don’t know if there's really ever closure in something like this. The fact that Dalen has 15 years to life just tells me that in roughly 14 years we’ll have to revisit this again,” says Tony. 1896

Nothing will ruin your night more than finding out your car's been towed.That's exactly what's happened more than 1,000 times since the city converted Fifth Avenue to a three-minute passenger loading zone after 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights in September 2016. "They really don't ask questions around here," said Vanessa Figueroa, who hands out fliers for Gaslamp BBQ on the corner of 5th and Island every Friday and Saturday nights. "If you're parked here, your car's gone."The city made the change to reduce gridlock, boost emergency response times, and make passenger drop-offs safer. But that's also meant a lot of towing. White spent more than 30 years in America’s Finest City as a reporter and anchor at KGTV 10News.White grew up in Oceanside and graduated from Oceanside High School in 1957. He was even inducted into the school’s hall of fame for his contribution to the arts.White began his broadcasting career on the radio in the early 1960s before moving to TV where he spent 34 years at KGTV.On November 14, 2010, the City of San Diego declared Jack White Day. The county made a similar declaration. Many who worked with him called him a gentleman and a great coworker. After leaving 10News, White worked as a technical advisor on the movie “Anchorman.”White covered every story there was to be covered in San Diego. His Restaurant Row coverage was known as a 10News staple. His iconic line in this popular segment was "The meal was served piping hot, just the way I like it."White will be missed by many, both in the community and at 10News. 1014
