According to the agency, the man robbed a U.S. Bank located inside a Vons grocery store at 665 Saturn Boulevard. The suspect reportedly approached the teller and made a verbal demand for cash, telling the employee he had a gun. The man made off with an unspecified amount of cash. Pictures show the man wearing a hooded Padres sweatshirt and mirrored sunglasses. He is described as a white or possibly Middle Eastern man in his late 20s or early 30s. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The California Center for the Arts, Escondido will host drive-in live concerts and a movie series this month.The concerts and movie screenings will be held at the former Nordstrom parking lot at Westfield North County at 8 p.m. Spaces for more than 250 vehicles will be made available and spaced apart to keep listeners distanced.The scheduled shows start on Aug. 14 with a showing of the classic musical Grease and continue on Aug. 15 and 16 with a performance by Jersey Boys stars Christian Hoff and Travis Cloer. Hoff, a Tony Award-winning actor, is best known for his portrayal of the role Tommy Devito from the Four Season’s and Cloer is the longest-running actor to play the role Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys.Tickets to the general public will go on sale on Aug. 1 at 1 p.m. here or by calling 800-988-4253. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The conference and convention industry has been hard-hit by the pandemic.With limitations on gatherings and worry about health, most of the in-person part of the industry came to a standstill."COVID-19 has made this year an extraordinarily challenging and unpredictable year," said President and CEO of the San Diego Convention Center Rip Rippetoe.By Rippetoe's numbers, from March through the end of 2020, they'll have lost more than 100 events at the convention center.Rippetoe said the estimated financial loss to the San Diego region is more than one billion dollars."It doesn't just include us," said Rippetoe. "There are restaurants, hotels, attractions, retail. All the things that people may not realize are affected."It's the same problem for spots up and down the state and across most of the country."We have had zero conferences, I believe since March," said Madonna Inn Marketing Manager Amanda Rich.The Madonna Expo Center in San Luis Obispo can hold around 2,000 people, and prior to COVID-19, they hosted multiple events a week."It's been a huge change for us and our staff," Rich said. "We have a banquet staff that's here specifically for those expo events, and we haven't had any."Virtual EventsWhile in-person locations have suffered, for many conferences, the show still goes on, virtually."A virtual event is not here to replace an in-person event," said Jonathan Kazarian, founder and CEO at Accelevents. "It's not intended to even be modeled exactly like that. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The father whose two children died in a Rancho Bernardo home fire in 2017 was found guilty on all counts Monday. Jurors found Henry Lopez guilty of two counts of child endangerment, recklessly causing a fire causing great bodily injury, and two counts of involuntary manslaughter in the death of his two children.Prosecutors argued Lopez fell asleep with a lit cigarette, starting the fire that killed 7-year-old Isabella and 10-year-old Cristos and destroyed his condominium. Lopez’ attorney said a defective cell phone was the likely ignition source. Lopez woke up to find his home on fire and tried to escape but passed out from smoke, investigators said. Firefighters later found him and took him to the hospital. Deputy District Attorney Kyle Sutterley said Cristos died of burns to more than 80 percent of his body and Isabella died of smoke inhalation. "A parent has a responsibility to care for their children, a responsibility to protect their children, and if need be, to sacrifice themselves for their children. And Henry Lopez, on Oct. 28, 2017, he failed his children, and as a result, one of them burned to death, and one of them went to sleep and never woke up,'' Sutterley said in his closing argument. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The City of San Diego is moving forward with a plan to underground utilities in eight neighborhoods throughout the city. In a meeting Monday, San Diego’s City Council voted to establish underground utility districts. The district's would include the neighborhoods of Otay Mesa-Nestor, San Ysidro, Clairemont Mesa, Encanto, Southeastern/ Skyline-Paradise Hills, College Area, Navajo, and Mid-City: Eastern Area. So far, the City of San Diego has moved roughly 400 miles of utilities underground. RELATED: SDG&E moves 20 miles of power lines undergroundAlthough Monday's meeting marked the first step in the process, the city says construction won’t begin for several more years. In total, the project is estimated to cost more than .2 million, including .5 million for the electrical utility work and .7 for related work, including administration, streetlight replacement, street resurfacing and related work. Recently, the city increased staff to accommodate more undergrounding districts and increase customer service.
