For the better part of three months, Greg Morrison has spent most of his waking moments searching for jobs. Last week, that search finally paid off for the 33-year-old TV producer, who lives in Los Angeles.Three months without a paycheck, though, hasn’t been easy.“Every time you slide your credit card to pay for groceries or write a rent check, there’s that voice in your head that knows it’s coming out of your savings,” Morrison said.As COVID-19 swept across the country earlier this year, it all but ceased production of most television shows in L.A. For Morrison, the realization came fairly quickly that this stretch of unemployment would last much longer than the typical few weeks he has between some jobs. He’s been surviving on the extra 0 that the federal government has added to unemployment benefits as part of the CARES Act, but even that has been hard to come by.“They are seven weeks behind on my unemployment payments,” he said. “I can’t get anyone on the phone. They say they’ve setup another line, but I can’t reach anyone.”But even with all the troubles he’s facing getting unemployment benefits, prospects are looking better for Morrison and some Americans who have found themselves out of work because of the virus, especially as some states begin easing their stay-at-home restrictions.“It’s a lot more promising than it was a few weeks ago,” said Morrison, who just accepted a new producing job that starts in June.Although he’s hesitant given the current situation with the pandemic, he’s also hopeful.“I’m happy to be one of the lucky ones right now,” he added. As for economists, many still believe recovering from the pandemic will not be like flipping a light switch back on.“It’ll be five years before a full recovery,” said David Parsley, who teaches economics at Vanderbilt University. But Parsley says jobs will slowly begin to return as more states open for business.“There’s always opportunities, but these opportunities will be for people who are skilled; people who are trained,” he said. 2039

Holly Nunn is expecting her first baby in September, so it was with a bright pink shirt and a protruding belly that she joined an abortion rights rally outside the US Supreme Court on Tuesday."I'm here protesting today because no one should be forced to be pregnant when they don't want to be, and right now our right to make that most basic, fundamental decision is under attack," she said.Nunn was one of the many abortion rights supporters who gathered at statehouses, town squares and courthouses across the United States in a show of opposition to a wave of laws attempting to sharply restrict abortion."We will not go back," protesters in Charlotte, North Carolina, chanted."My voice, my choice," protesters outside the Georgia state Capitol in Atlanta shouted.More than 788

Hours before dying in Fiji, Michelle Paul texted her parents saying she had been vomiting for hours during her vacation."We are both going to the doctor now. We have been throwing up for 8 hours. Dave has diarrhea. My hands are numb. We will text when we can," she told her father, Marc Calanog, on a WhatsApp message.Paul and her husband, David, became ill while vacationing in Fiji late last month and died within days of each other. The deaths of the Texas couple are being investigated by health officials on the South Pacific Island, with help from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention."We just got back from the clinic. They gave us fluids and an anti-nausea drip," Calanog said his daughter said on another message. "They gave us electrolyte packets and anti-nausea pills. We still don't feel 100%. Going to rest in our room."But their illnesses quickly worsened. After his daughter died, Calanog said he urged his son-in-law to focus on taking care of himself because Michelle was already in a better place. He died two days later.Calanog said they are still unsure what happened to his daughter and son-in-law and that he and his family are concentrating on taking care of his 2-year-old grandson.Fiji's Ministry of Health said investigations into the cause of death are ongoing. It said influenza has been ruled out. Tissue samples are en route to the CDC's Atlanta headquarters for testing."And at this stage we do not believe there is any risk to the public. It would be premature to speculate further on the cause of death until the investigation is complete," the ministry said.,The deaths were confirmed by a US State Department official, who said in a statement that American authorities were "closely monitoring" the investigation. The Fijian ministry said it is also working with the country's police forensics department and the World Health Organization to determine the cause of death. The couple died over Memorial Day weekend, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. Their families are currently working with US officials to repatriate their remains. 2094

First, it was face masks that disappeared after a run on stores by nervous consumers. Now it's hand sanitizer and any type of disinfecting wipes, leaving pharmacists begging people to stop hoarding.Pharmacist Troy Stinson says his store, Mullaney's Pharmacy, ran out of masks weeks ago and has no idea when more may come in.Now hand sanitizer has become the new N95 face mask: almost impossible to find after hoarders came in and cleared the shelves."It is completely unnecessary to buy those all," Stinson said. "If you want to have some on hand, it's a good idea to have. But it's not necessary to buy all of them."Consumers, however, are not heeding the request of Stinson and other pharmacists. Bottles of Purell were completely sold out a several Walgreens and groceries in the Cincinnati area.Grocers like 824
