On June 26, 2019, the City of Las Vegas Animal Control (Animal Control) responded to a call to pick up a dog that had bitten a child on the face. The Animal Foundation admitted the animal for the customary 10-day quarantine. On July 5, 2019, the City of Las Vegas released the animal from quarantine and on July 6, 2019, the animal was humanely euthanized. It was subsequently discovered by shelter management that the owner’s intent was to reclaim the dog after quarantine. The Animal Foundation has worked vigorously to identify the source of this tragic error and has determined the points of failure were an incorrect phone number listed for the owner, and employee non-compliance with data entry procedures. With 800-1000 animals in the shelter’s care daily, and over 80 more being admitted daily, data accuracy and timeliness are critical in maintaining operations. We have reached out to the owner and offered our condolences and other efforts to assist in any way possible. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A man was taken into custody in Oceanside on Monday morning after police say he broke into a short-term rental and sexually assaulted a woman. The sexual assault happened around 4 a.m. on the 800 block of South Pacific Street. According to police, Kwahmell Archer entered the home through an unlocked front door. Oceanside Police said there were 20 people inside the three-story rental when the suspect walked into a closet, got undressed and entered a sleeping woman’s bedroom. The 49-year-old woman woke up and screamed when the man grabbed her, waking up the rest of the house. Police said the suspect then ran back into the closet and was pinned inside by other people inside the house. Police arrived and took the man into custody. 773

Of all the campaign slogans for 2020, Allison Ali is following motherly advice from her childhood.“My Mama always said, ‘if you don’t vote, you don’t have a voice,’” she said. “So, it’s put up or shut up.”Ali is taking those wise words on the road and also taking voters to the polls for free.“It’s important to me, because everybody needs to be heard,” she said.This election season, Ali is one of hundreds of people working for the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America during a campaign called “Roll to the Polls.”“We have a real opportunity to impact the elections,” said NACA CEO Bruce Marks.Marks’ team has 100 vans in Atlanta and 50 more in Houston with a goal of getting 100,000 voters from their houses to their polling locations free of charge.“It is very emotional because we’ve been through a lot,” Marks said of these free rides. “We’ve seen the voter suppression and we’ve seen how people’s rights are taken away. Because of that, some local farmers are not able to sell their produce. But some farmers are determined to make sure their customers continue to get fresh produce, even if it's not readily available.Having fresh produce lately seems like a luxury. With panicked consumers in apocalypse mode, grocery shelves are looking dismal. Some won't even leave their homes. With farmers markets now shut down, local small farmers don't have a place to sell. Since 1929, Oceanside's Yasukochi Family Farms has survived many droughts, recessions, and even WWII Japanese Internment. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A 16-year-old girl told Oceanside Police a man, possibly homeless, tried to kidnap her Thursday morning as she walked to El Camino High School. The girl was walking east on Mesa Drive near Vanilla Way at 7:20 a.m. and passed the man heading the opposite direction. After she walked by, the man turned and grabbed her in a bear hug, police said. The man struggled with the girl, who was able to break free when he fell to the ground, according to investigators. The girl arrived at school and notified security about the incident. Oceanside Police units and a drone were deployed to find the man but were not successful. The girl described the man as dirty or "possibly homeless" according to police, white, in his 50s, 5’9 inches tall, and very thin. He was wearing a tan pullover sweatshirt with a zipper and baggy black jeans. Police said the man may be bald on top of his head with short light brown hair on the sides. He also had a scab on the right side of his neck, the girl reported. Oceanside officers are asking anyone with information to call the department’s Family Protection Unit at 760-435-4690. 1144
