SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 2015 trip Duncan Hunter and his family reportedly took to Italy was a personal vacation unrelated to his work as a member of Congress, according to new court documents. The documents state that Hunter proposed and then canceled a visit to a base in or around Naples, Italy “in conjunction with the hunter family vacation.”According to the documents, “Hunter’s primary motive in attempting to schedule the November 2015 visit to a base was to generate a pretextual purpose so that he could misrepresent his personal use of campaign funds for the family vacation.” RELATED: Federal judge denies Rep. Duncan Hunter's request to dismiss case, change trial venueThe court documents are dated Tuesday and come one day after a federal judge Monday denied Rep. Hunter’s request to dismiss a 60-count indictment that accuses the Congressman of misusing campaign funds. Hunter is accused of spending the funds on personal expenses, including family trips. In June, Hunter’s wife, Margaret Hunter, changed her plea to guilty in a plea deal with the federal government. RELATED: Wife of Rep. Duncan Hunter pleads guilty in federal caseAs part of the deal, Margaret will testify against her husband in his upcoming September trial. 1249

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A group of friends from Del Norte High School in 4S Ranch have turned their summer boredom into a way to help others.Andrew Zhang, Jerry Wu, Nick Genovese and Rishi Peddakama are 3D printing face shields and donating them to local hospitals."I guess we were all just kind of feeling like restless and we needed to do something during this like difficult time," Zhang says on why he and his friends decided to start making PPE from scratch. The boys have turned their summertime hobby into a new non-profit, Shield Our Health Heroes. Their website has a place for donations, and all of the money goes towards materials for more face shields. So far, they've raised enough money to donate 750 face shields to 10 local hospitals."We've been told multiple times that our shields fit better and are better quality than a lot of the shields that they're getting," says Genovese."I really think we are making an impact in our community," adds WU. "Our products are actually really helping these health care workers who need these."The four friends each brought their unique talents to the group effort. Andrew came up with the idea and has spearheaded the project. Rishi built the website and set up the donation PayPal account. Jerry does all of the social media and advertising. Nick contacts the hotels and sets up the deliveries."We try to make it hassle free for them," says Peddakama."We just really want to give back during this time," says Zhang. "And this helps make sure they're staying safe as well." 1529

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A City pool is now drained and shut down after vandals threw glass into it.Parents who bring their kids to the Allied Gardens pool for swim lessons were notified on Monday of the closure. "Honestly my reaction, I just kind of sat there dumbfounded, they called and said the classes were canceled, me being curious I asked why, they said vandalism. I said you have to be kidding. This is my neighborhood!" said Marie Veenstra, a mom of three. She says two of her children attend lessons at the pool on Glenroy Street four days a week. "It is super frustrating, not only as a mom who can't bring her kids to the pool, but thinking about the environment," said Veenstra. The City says broken shards of glass can be impossible to see or retrieve without draining the pool. Broken glass found in and around the pool results in having to drain the pool completely, conduct a thorough cleaning of the pool bottom to retrieve remaining pieces of glass, refill the pool with water and necessary chemicals to ensure the pool is safe and then reopen the facility. The City's safety protocol is consistent with the Model Aquatic Health Code. Draining and refilling the more than 320,000-gallon pool will cost the City roughly ,000 when factoring in personnel. "We love our pool though, we wish this didn't happen, but we'll come back."City officials say a police report has been filed, but there are no leads as to who threw glass in the pool. 1458
