Security is being questioned after a plane was stolen from the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Friday. As officials look into how this happened, investigative reporter Jace Larson finds out more about the man piloting the plane.Richard Russell seemed coherent in his final conversations with air traffic control."I've got a lot of people that care about me, and uhh... it's gonna disappoint them to hear that I did this.”Russell did some aerial stunts while refusing air traffic control’s attempts to have him land.Russell’s final words were captured on radio, and he was apologetic to those he loved."Just a broken guy. Got a few screws loose, I guess,” Russell could be heard saying. “Never really knew it, until now."One of Russell's co-workers was surprised to hear his voice."You could tell he was in pain,” says Jeremy Kaelin, a former co-worker of Russell. “Kind of seemed a little delusional, and I was just shocked to see that someone who was so nice, so helpful and caring, actually he cared about his job, to do such a thing and you know and end his life."Russell had access to secure aircraft areas as a ground service agent and had knowledge on taxiing planes around the airport.Protocol requires two people to be present to tow the plane. Authorities are still unsure how Russell managed to access the plane alone and move it by himself."We believe he was in uniform,” says Brad Tilden, CEO of Alaska Airlines. “His job is to be around airplanes. He is tow certified, so he's meant to be-- airports have a non-secure side and a secure side. He's meant to be on the secure side. That's a part of the fulfillment of his job responsibilities."Once in the air, military jets were sent to follow Russell to make sure he didn't do anything dangerous."Military jets were scrambled from Portland, but it does not appear that the jets were involved in the crash of the Horizon aircraft," says Gary Beck, CEO of Horizon Air.The National Transportation Safety Board says Russell crashed through several lines of 10-foot-high trees. 2050

(KGTV) - A local woman says her heart stopped when she saw what someone nearly sat on at a popular trail in Santee.Angie Haake was just beginning her usual dog walk last Thursday morning near the entrance of Walker Preserve Trail, when she noticed two upset women on the phone talking to deputies.  Haake asked them what was going on and they showed her a razor blade on the bench."I was shocked when it saw it. Obviously whoever put it there wanted someone to sit down and slice the back of their thighs. It's cruel and hateful," said Haake.The discovery was not the first.  Another trail goer tells 10news about three weeks ago, she found a similar blade near another bench.  In November 2016, 10news spoke with a mother at Mast Park in Santee, who found dozens of tacks placed sharp-side up underneath leaves.10news reached out to deputies to find out how many reports of similar cases there have been on the trail, but have yet to hear back. 983

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray announced his resignation Tuesday, hours after new sexual abuse allegations surfaced against the embattled politician.The mayor's announcement comes after his cousin gave an interview with the Seattle Times alleging abuse, the latest in a series of allegations against the mayor. The cousin is the fifth person to accuse Murray of child sexual abuse.Murray denied the allegations, as he has in the past. He said he was resigning effective 5 p.m. Wednesday so the scandal would no longer overshadow his office. In light of the latest allegations, he said it was clear it is best for the city for him to step aside."While the allegations against me are not true, it is important that my personal issues do not affect the ability of our city government to conduct the public's business," he said in a statement."To the people of this special city and to my dedicated staff, I am sorry for this painful situation."Council President Bruce Harrell will become mayor upon Murray's resignation, Murray said. Harrell has five days to decide to hold the position for the remainder of Murray's term, which ends in December.Murray was elected in 2014 after 18 years as a state lawmaker. SAN YSIDRO (KGTV) -- Business owners and commuters from Mexico are nervously waiting and watching to see what President Trump's next move will be. Tuesday afternoon, the president told reporters he is still deciding whether he'll shut down the southern border. Business owners in San Ysidro say just the mere threat is keeping people away. "There's a lot of workers who cross daily, and most of them live in Mexico, so that definitely affects them, but people who are in retail it definitely affects our sales because customers don't want to get stuck at the border like they did last time there was a 5 hour shut down," said Govinda Figueroa. She said when the border at San Ysidro closed in November, it took weeks to make up the loss. "Last time there was a shut down it actually affected our sales for the next two weeks," said Figueroa.Juan Cisneros lives in Tijuana, but walks to San Ysidro for work. He says the thought of the port of entry closing, even for a day, scares him. "If we work in Mexico, the money is not enough, that's why we have to cross here to have a better living, so that's the reason we cross most of the time, so it will change our lives," said Cisneros. During Tuesday's news conference, the president said in the last two days, Mexico has done a better job of stopping the flow of Central American migrants from coming through its southern border. Figueroa said she doesn't know what to think. "I think it's 50/50. I think a lot of us think it's just another political move and just another you know, empty promise or threat, but the people who cross are afraid it's going to happen and they don't want to get stuck at the border or on this side and not being able to cross back." 1720
