Judge Esther Salas, a US district judge in the state of New Jersey, spoke out for the first time since her son was shot and killed two weeks ago.Salas’ son Daniel Anderl was killed on Salas’ doorstep. He would have celebrated his 20th birthday this weekend."Two weeks ago, my life as I knew it changed in an instant and my family will never be the same. A madman, who I believe was targeting me because of my position as federal judge came to my house,” Judge Salas said.It is believed that Daniel protected his father Mark Anderl from the path of the bullets. The father survived the shooting, but was wounded three times.“As federal judges, we understand that our decisions will be scrutinized and some may disagree strongly with our rulings, but what we cannot accept is when we are forced to live in fear for our lives because personal information, like our home addresses, can be easily obtained by anyone seeking to do us or our families harm,” Salas said. “Unfortunately, for my family, the threat was real and the free flow of information from the internet allowed this sick and depraved human being to find all our personal information and target us.”The suspect, 72-year-old Roy Den Hollander, died by suicide after the shooting. Hollander was also suspected in the killing of Marc Angelucci, the vice president of the National Coalition for Men. JAMUL, Calif. (KGTV) — A Jamul woman who lost her home to the Valley Fire says her horses were likely saved thanks to fire retardant sprayed on her property. Shelley Brown still can't believe how fast the flames were moving. By 3 p.m. Saturday, the fast-moving flames were bearing down on her home on Lawson Hills Road."Ashes falling down around me. I could hear the fire burning. It was scary," said Brown.She only had time to try and round up her five dogs. One of them ran off. She also owned horses, including three she had just rescued, but she had no trailer. Faced with an impossible decision, she opened up the corral gate and released them."It was the worst. It was the worst. You don’t know if you’re doing the right thing," said Brown, choking back tears.As she drove off, she says the flames were within a few hundred feet of her home. She drove up a hill. She couldn't stop thinking of her horses."Went to the top and cried for a little while," said Brown.The next morning, Brown got back to the area and discovered her two mustangs in a neighbor's yard."So relieved. The search and rescue team helped me get them," said Brown.Not far away, she found the remnants of her home. Her two-story home of 10 years had been destroyed, along with all her belongings."I felt strange and little bit eerie," said Brown.And then, she felt joyful. About 20 feet from the burned home, standing in her yard, were the three rescue horses."I was shocked, so happy. Didn’t know what to expect. They weren’t singed," said Brown.A closer look around the property one possible reason they survived: a sign of a firefight."They were putting retardant around the edge of the property. I can still see it, and they kind of surrounded where my horses were. I’m guessing that’s what saved them," said Brown.A week after the flames swept the area, Brown is beginning to go through the rubble. She is thankful to fire crews."They are amazing. They saved my animals, and I'm so grateful," said Brown.This week, Brown decided to buy dozens of breakfast sandwiches for firefighters."It's the least I can do," said Brown.Brown, who recently inherited the home, is not yet sure if the insurance covers wildfires.A GoFundMe campaign has been started to help her rebuild. 2257

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Priority Care Pediatrics in Kansas City requires its patients to follow the CDC immunization schedule.With the recent measles outbreak in the Kansas City area, the office made a post on Facebook to educate parents and reaction was swift.Dr. Raymond Cattaneo said that post, "Turned into something much bigger than that when some anti-vaccine people got a hold of that and bombarded our post. Reading comment after comment after comment you just kind of get worn down because you know you're fighting the good fight. You're on the right side of science but you worry that what they're saying, people will actually believe."Kristen Kleffner is a mom of four who got a letter from her son's school."We've done everything we can on our end but that doesn't necessarily mean they're still safe," Kleffner said. "You hear about measles outbreaks but you don't realize it's going to hit so close to home."Cattaneo told Scripps station KSHB in Kansas City, "Measles is one of the most contagious illnesses out there. It's a scary thing, especially when we know we have an immunization that can prevent this from happening."He added that it doesn't take many people for an outbreak to turn into an epidemic."The science is clear, this is about saving kids lives," Cattaneo said. 1301

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A Missouri family finally knows the answer to a 31-year mystery: Who murdered Fawn Cox?The Kansas City Police Department says Cox was 16 years old when she was killed in her home in July 1989, as the rest of her family slept.
