WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Postal Service has launched a new website to help Americans vote by mail in the November general election.The USPS announced the creation of usps.com/votinginfo Friday, saying the site is meant to provide the electorate with clear and concise information about voting by mail.The website is also meant to help election officials as states choose to expand mail-in voting options for the upcoming elections, so that voters don’t have to risk contracting the coronavirus at the polls.For domestic voters, the website provides direct links to federal election resources as well as links to state-specific resources. For overseas and military voters, the new site provides additional information, including links to resources supporting their election participation.The site also highlights what the USPS views as the most critical information for voters who opt to vote through the U.S. mail: that, in requesting or casting a mail-in ballot, they not only must comply with their local jurisdictions’ requirements, but also should start the process early.To allow sufficient time for voters to receive, complete and return ballots via the mail, the USPS strongly recommends that voters request ballots at the earliest point allowable, but no later than 15 days prior to the election date.The Postal Service also recommends that voters mail their ballots at least one week prior to their states’ due dates to allow for timely receipt by election officials.Voters should contact their local election officials for further information about deadlines and other requirements.The USPS says it remains fully committed to fulfilling its role in the electoral process and can handle the anticipated increase in election mail.“Election officials and voters are being asked to be mindful of the Postal Service’s established delivery standards and consider how the mail actually works, so that voters have adequate time to request, receive, complete and send their mail-in ballots,” wrote the USPS in a press release. “The Postal Service will continue to do everything in its power to efficiently handle and deliver Election Mail, including ballots, in a manner consistent with the proven processes and procedures that have been relied upon for years.” 2273

WAVELAND, Miss. — Storm-weary Gulf Coast residents are preparing for a new weather onslaught as Tropical Storm Sally churns northward. Forecasters from the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Sally is expected to become a hurricane on Monday and reach shore by early Tuesday, bringing dangerous weather conditions including risk of flooding to a region stretching from the western Florida Panhandle to southeast Louisiana. Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards urged people to prepare for the storm immediately. He also said there are still many from southwestern Louisiana who evacuated from Hurricane Laura into New Orleans — exactly the area that could be hit by Sally.As the Gulf Coast braced for Sally, Bermuda was hunkered down and riding out the effects of Hurricane Paulette. That storm — with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph as of 4 a.m. ET — was hovering above the Atlantic island nation as of Monday morning. The storm is expected to impact Bermuda throughout the day on Monday before moving west on Tuesday.Also on Monday, Tropical Storm Teddy formed in the eastern Atlantic Ocean. WEEKI WACHEE, Fla. — Searing pain and immediate swelling were the first signs that 6-year-old Kyden Debyah needed immediate medical attention.While playing in his backyard Monday morning, Kyden said he felt what he thought was a bee sting his right foot near his big toe. Then his mom saw a snake coiled up underneath the tire swing Kyden was about to get on.“I heard him scream 'My leg, my leg,'” Amber Debyah said. Debyah called 911 and grabbed a rake to kill the snake. By the time she came back she said she knew it was bad.“His foot was double the size. It was really hot, red,” Debyah said.First responders told her to try and get the snake so they could identify it and figure out what type of antivenin he needed. First responders brought the dead snake to the emergency room and doctors began administering antivenin for a pygmy rattlesnake bite. In all, Kyden got 18 vials before the swelling subsided and his symptoms started to go away.  The entire time Debyah worried if her son would lose his leg or worse.“I really feel he got lucky after reading other people's stories,” Debyah said. “I feel like if it would have bit him fully with both fangs, it would’ve been a lot worse.”Only one fang injected venom into Kyden’s body. “He was in great spirits the whole time. He was laughing and joking I mean other than the pain in his foot he had no symptoms, no fever, no vomiting. Normal Kyden, except for the pain,” Debyah said.  Kyden might have a low-grade fever, sore joints, rashes, but nothing that will cause permanent damage, Debyah said. Each vial of antivenin costs around ,000.
