The church's leaders invited Muslims to join them so both faiths could learn about each other and the way that they worship. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- The 2019-2020 cruise season is officially underway in San Diego, and the Port of San Diego expects thousands of visitors to the region, having a significant economic impact on the city.The Port has 104 cruise calls scheduled, which is up from last year's numbers. Approximately 338,000 passengers will be on the cruises and Port officials say each home ported call has an average of million in economic impact."That doesn't just mean spending money on food and shopping, but that can be maintenance, repairs and things to the ship," said Adam Deaton, with the Port's cruise business development."It's a great, great uptick for San Diego's economy," said Deaton. "We're not in the summer so it's kind of the down season, so cruise is a great pick me up for the winter and fall months."The season began Tuesday with the arrival of luxury ship Le Soleal, from French Cruise company, Ponant.Also this season, Holland America, Disney Cruise, and Carnival Cruise Lines will be featured. Carnival has not been in San Diego since 2011 and its return was much anticipated.The Carnival Miracle will be at the Port starting in December for 12 trips including Mexican Riviera, Hawaiian Island, Baja Mexico and Panama Canal cruises.Starting October 4, Disney Cruise Line will offer 16 cruises from the Port of San Diego. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Pacific Gas & Electric, which is blamed for some of California's deadliest recent fires, knew for years that dozens of its aging power lines posed a wildfire threat but avoided replacing or repairing them, it was reported Wednesday.The Wall Street Journal, using company documents obtained under the federal Freedom of Information Act, reported that the utility told the U.S. Forest Service in 2017 and 2018 that 49 aging steel towers on one transmission line needed replacement and another 57 needed replacement of their hardware and aluminum lines.The Journal previously reported that PG&E delayed safety work on the line, known as the Caribou-Palermo line, for five years.State investigators said an equipment failure on that line sparked a November wildfire that essentially wiped out the Northern California town of Paradise and killed 85 people. It was the deadliest and most destructive in state history.On Wednesday, the Butte County Sheriff's Office identified a previously unnamed victim as 67-year-old Shirley Haley of Paradise.Four other people have been tentatively identified while two bodies remain unidentified.After the fire, PG&E decided to stop using the line, which was built in 1921.PG&E also estimated

SAN DIEGO COUNTY (KGTV)-- While most beaches in San Diego County are entirely closed due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Coronado, Torrey Pines, and Oceanside do not have hard-closures. However, most of the visitors at the still-open beaches were doing their part in maintaining proper social distance. Get out and stretch out. Many people found one of the rare places in San Diego County to do so: Coronado Beach. "All the gyms, and everywhere you can get a little exercise, are closed," Manhattan Beach resident, Ryan Darling said. "I actually came out just to stretch my legs a little bit and get out of the house to do some lunges." Darling is visiting a friend in Coronado. He was worried the beach here would be packed. But many are finding it to be pretty mellow. "It's just as nice to see that it's not crazy on this nice, beautiful Saturday," Coronado resident, Brenda Byrnes said. Coronado Lifeguards periodically make announcements over the loudspeakers to take enforcement to the next level. "We're trying as hard as we can to keep the beach open. So we ask that you guys remain in motion," lifeguards said. If they see anyone loitering, sunbathing, or quietly sitting on the sand, they tell them to get a move on. It's a message most people seem to be following. "I went the whole way, and we just wave hi to one another from six feet and keep going," Darling said. The same goes for Oceanside. The beaches there have similar soft-closure rules. The parking lots, Pier, picnic areas, and playgrounds are closed. Congregating is strictly prohibited. These cities are following State guidelines practiced at Torrey Pines State Beach. Parking lots are closed, so visitors must hike into the beach. But some fortunate folks found street parking. "It's our lucky day!" visitor, John Hughes laughed. "Get out, get some sun, and then we'll go back home and hibernate."So far, visitors at the still-open beaches seem to be taking social distancing seriously. It's because if they do not, they know this luxury may be taken away at any time. "I hope they remain open, and to be used just the way they are right now," Byrnes said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) Sewage contaminated water is keeping swimmers out of the ocean in Imperial Beach. Late Tuesday afternoon, The County of San Diego Department of Environmental Health extended an existing water contact closure to include all of Imperial Beach. The original closure was issued on June 27th for the Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge shoreline. According to the county, sewage-contaminated runoff in the Tijuana River has been entering the Tijuana Estuary. Eric Syverson is a life long resident of Imperial Beach. He keeps a close eye on what's happening in the Tijuana River Valley. "It was dry on Saturday, not dry on Sunday. Monday, we wondered what was going on and now, Tuesday, there was quite a bit of flow this morning and it just smelled horrible and it’s green,” said Syverson. The water was pooling under the bridge on the north side of Dairy Mart Road. "At six a.m. this morning, probably double the volume that’s flowing right now and the air was twice as bad, you couldn’t breath under this bridge this morning," said Syverson. According to a San Diego inspector with the International Boundary and Water Commission, there was transboundary flow Monday night into Tuesday morning from a ruptured potable water line. The IBWC estimates 300,000 gallons of treated and untreated wastewater flowed into the U.S. Initially, the IBWC said the figure was much higher; roughly two million gallons. The number was revised after the inspector determined their gauging station was not accurately recording the flows. Members of Citizens Against Sewage are skeptical. "I’m looking at the gauge data from the river gauge from IBWC's information. We put values on those numbers that they provide, and it’s over seven milllion gallons,” said Lance Rodgers, Co-Founder of Citizens Against Sewage. This is just the latest in a series of sewage spills that have closed South County beaches."There were flows on the second, there were flows on the 30th, the 28th, 24, 23, 20, 19 it’s been a bad month,” said Syverson. Syverson said it's the same problem with no solutions from either side of the border. "I mean, why should we even have to think about it. It's July 9th, we should be at the beach right now, going "God, look at how gorgeous this area is," not standing in a horrible valley wondering how to solve a problem that’s existed for my entire lifetime," said Syverson.
