COLORADO SPRINGS — The COVID-19 pandemic continues to make an impact, especially to agencies who help kids who've been removed from their families because of abuse or neglect.One foster care agency in Colorado, Hope and Home, says they have over two hundred foster families with 80 recently licensed. Despite the pandemic, the organization says families are continuing to foster children and they haven't seen a decrease in interest."We are always on standby and ready to take care of kids when they come into care. They're always a need for foster families, but there's a greater need during the pandemic," said Jacquelyn Thurman- Wright. "With kids not being at school, they are not in the line of sight of teachers who are mandatory reporters. Sometimes we're seeing this abuse go on because these kids are flying under the radar and not being seen."The organization says COVID-19 has had a huge impact on the foster care system."The most obvious and immediate impact on Hope and Home is that we had to suspend in-person support groups because on a given night we could have 250 people in the building. But within a week, we were up and running on Zoom and Facebook live," said Thurman- Wright.Right now, Hope and Home is fully online and virtual but they're still taking inquiry phone calls and placing kids in foster homes.Sean and Mandy have been fostering since 2018 and didn't let the pandemic get in their way of adopting triplets and fostering a newborn baby."We didn't go to the courthouse because of COVID. So we had it on our couch via ZOOM with the judge," said Mandy.The couple says the pandemic hasn't made fostering easy."Visits are a lot harder, they're more virtual unless they're younger and that its really hard. Therapies, a lot of foster kids come in needing therapies and they're usually virtual," said Mandy.With the new restrictions, doctor visits are harder as well."So if one of the triplets have an appointment, even though they're triplets we can't bring the other two. We actually hired a nanny because of it," said Mandy and Sean.Even with the pandemic, it was not only important for Sean and Mandy but their children, that they continue fostering."We felt like this is what we had to do and then when we were getting our other foster baby. COVINGTON, Ky. -- At least three Northern Kentucky school districts will be closed Monday after state lawmakers rushed through a pension overhaul plan.Covington Independent, Boone County and Kenton County schools confirmed they'll be closed April 2.Covington spokesperson Deb Vance said 180 of 271 teachers called to say they're taking a personal day on Monday. The day will have to be made up later, she said. In Boone County, Superintendent Randy Poe said a day off will let teachers and families travel to Frankfort."Drastic times call for drastic action," Poe said in a letter to parents. "Although closing school is the last thing anyone wants to do, one of the reasons for this decision to close school is because educators feel one of their main responsibilities is to advocate for the children of the Commonwealth."The bill passed Thursday night preserves benefits for current retirees. Most benefits for current workers would also be preserved, but sick days would be capped after this year and will not be applied toward retirement. Some teachers would also have to increase the amount they pay to fund retiree health.However, future teachers would not be guaranteed a set pension when they retire, and would instead use a hybrid 401(k) plan that requires them to contribute more. 1298

Country singer Gretchen Wilson was arrested in Connecticut after allegedly becoming belligerent with police at a local airport. CBS affiliate WFSB reported Wednesday morning that the Connecticut State Police was called to Bradley International Airport near Hartford on Tuesday. There had apparently been a minor disturbance on an incoming flight. Authorities said Wilson became belligerent during an interview. COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — Yanise Ho says with all the negativity going on, she wants to prove that there are good people in the world.She's been on her journey for five months and has already rollerbladed through 15 states just depending on strangers.Ho fixes her wheels as she prepares to rollerblade across Nebraska."Rollerblades become a part of my body, it's not a bicycle, I have to figure out how to lock it up, it's a part of me," said Yanise Ho.Carrying 43 pounds on her back, Ho started in Miami and plans to finish in Portland, Oregon by November, and blade all the way back, making her trip about 6,200 miles."My mission is to show that there are amazing people in the world, every day I have no plans, just faith and the goodness of people," said Ho.Rolling state to state, without knowing where she'll sleep next or when she'll have her next meal."Somehow, I always stumble upon the best people in the world," said Ho.The 23-year-old "bladress" does not accept money just food and a place to sleep.Rollerblading about 700 miles a day, Ho says since she started, each night a stranger has opened up their home for her to rest."Every day I feel like everyone is my family, and this is how the world should be," Ho said.Her greater goal is to raise ,000 to sponsor 130 girls in Kenya and Uganda to go to secondary school."They can contribute to the scholarship that I am raising funds for other girls to be able to go to school and chase their dreams," said Ho.Follow Yanise Ho on her journey by visiting her Facebook page. 1551

COLUSA COUNTY, Calif. (KGTV) -- California Highway Patrol is investigating after someone reportedly shot at a Pacific Gas and Electric worker Wednesday. According to CHP, the worker was traveling in a parked PG&E pick-up truck on I-5 south of Lenahan Road in Colusa County when the passenger side window shattered. At the time, the driver was unsure why the window shattered, but an investigation by CHP determined that a bullet hit the truck. CHP says another vehicle was traveling near the PG&E truck at the time of the incident, but details on the vehicle or driver are unclear at this time. The PG&E worker was uninjured. 646
