The global pandemic has changed what “work” looks like for millions of people, and those changes could become permanent, according to workplace and hiring experts.In a report from Glassdoor looking at job trends in 2021 they remind people that moments of crisis, like the coronavirus pandemic, can present risks and opportunities.Some companies have already announced long-term work-from-home opportunities, are embracing mental health and culture-building initiatives, and are scaling back in-person meetings and positions that are in-person focused.Part of the report focused on jobs Glassdoor predicts will either not exist or will be drastically different in the future because of the pandemic.In 2021, lower-skilled service jobs, education jobs, administrative office roles, sales roles and discretionary healthcare jobs could start disappearing. These findings are based on job listings from October 2019 to October 2020, and noticing trends of decreasing job postings during the pandemic that do not show signs of bouncing back.Some of those jobs specifically include beauty consultants, valets, pet groomers, event coordinators, executive assistants, receptionists, sales product demonstrators, product or brand ambassadors and even sales managers.In education, the higher ed system “is facing an overwhelming financial crisis due to falling enrollment and mandated campus closures, and these jobs may not return for a long time.” That includes college professors and instructors, according to Glassdoor.In healthcare, while frontline workers like doctors and nurses are in high demand, other positions are not as some health needs are being postponed or canceled altogether. The city manager for Alameda, California, said a formal investigation is underway following the arrest of a man dancing in a street as part of his exercise routine.The man, Mali Watkins, was charged with resisting arrest. Why he was arrested in the first place is unclear.On May 23, two officers from Alameda Police approached the man after police received a report that a man was dancing in the street. When police arrived, they discovered Mali dancing in the street.When asked why he was dancing, Mali stated it was part of his exercise routine.After Mali began to walk away, videos show officers grabbing Mali by the wrist and detaining him. Mali was told if he resisted, he would be charged with resisting arrest, which is what happened.The city of Alameda said that the man is a resident of the city and is African American.“At this time, I do not know the reasons why the initial officers approached the call the way they did. I am hopeful that an investigation will provide better understanding to that question,” City Manager Eric Levitt said.In the last few days, the city has released body warn camera footage from the incident, in addition to a call into the police’s non-emergency line. The death toll in the deadliest wildfire in California history continues to increase as Cal Fire officials said on Tuesday that six more bodies were found, marking the Camp Fire's death toll at 48. The six bodies were found in Paradise, California, a town that authorities said was destroyed by the Camp Fire, which is only 30 percent contained as of Tuesday. The Camp Fire alone has destroyed 8,817 structures and continues to spread. The fire is spreading despite nearly 5,000 fire personnel responding to the fire, Cal Fire said. Unfortunately, the Camp Fire is just one of several wildfires raging currently. The Woolsey Fire, which has claimed two lives of its own, continues to spread throughout Ventura County, California. The CDC is changing their recommendations for travelers, urging them to pay attention to local and state recommendations, and dropping their 14-day quarantine for international or out-of-state travelers.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated their travel requirements Friday, according to multiple media reports. They now advise travelers to "follow state, territorial, tribal and local recommendations or requirements after travel." Previously, the agency recommended a 14-day quarantine for those returning from international destinations or any area with a high concentration of coronavirus cases.The guidelines still urge travelers to limit their risk of infecting others by social distancing and wearing a mask. “You may feel well and not have any symptoms, but you can still spread COVID-19 to others," the CDC states on their website.There are still international travelers who are not allowed to enter the U.S. based on presidential proclamations. Foreign nationals who have spent time in these countries in the last 14 days before travel cannot enter the U.S.: China, Iran, United Kingdom, Ireland, Brazil, and most of Europe.
