SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More local employees are losing their employer health insurance benefits during the COVID-19 crisis.10News was contacted about employees at the San Marcos Veterinary Clinic who were apparently working just as many hours but their medical benefits have been dropped.10News spoke to the owner of the clinic on Thursday who said she was forced to make the tough and emotional call to drop her 13 employees' health benefits, including her own, in order to keep them on the payroll and keep the clinic’s lights on during the pandemic. She said the decision was made out of desperation. Not greed.On Thursday, 10News interviewed Anthony Wright with Health Access California, a consumer advocacy group. “A stay in the hospital for say seven or ten days on a ventilator, which is the treatment for having a severe case of this virus, could be in the tens of thousands of dollars if you're not covered” he told 10News.So, what if you lose your coverage during the pandemic? Wright told 10News that Californians can try COBRA, which temporarily extends your same employer-based health plan, but there’s a downside. “That's a very expensive option for most people,” he added.Wright said a better option could be Covered California, the state's health insurance marketplace that allows individuals to buy coverage at federally subsidized rates.Covered California’s open enrollment period has been extended through June, amid concerns over the virus. “How much Covered California costs is very much dependent on your current income. It's a percentage of your income on a sliding scale,” he said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are looking into an apparent road rage-related chase and collision involving two women that spanned the length of Interstate 8 between Mission Valley and Ocean Beach.Officers said the women were traveling more than 100 mph on westbound I-8 in Mission Valley before they exited in the Ocean Beach area.When both women got to Sunset Cliffs Boulevard, police said the driver of a silver car rammed the other driver’s white SUV several times. The SUV then forced the other car to collide with a center divide.The SUV’s driver got out of her vehicle and confronted the other driver; she reportedly told police she pepper-sprayed the silver car’s driver because she became aggressive.ABC 10News learned the pepper sprayed driver told police that she and the other woman were dating the same man.However, the SUV’s driver claimed she did not know the silver car’s driver.There is no word if anyone was arrested, as police are still trying to sort out the details. 991

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police have identified the man suspected of stabbing a 55-year-old to death in the Midway District Thanksgiving Day. According to San Diego Police, Forrest Robert Brantley, 38, stabbed 55-year-old Robert Frank Erbe around 8 a.m. November 28 on the 3100 block of Sports Arena Boulevard. Erbe was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries.RELATED: Police identify man killed in Midway District stabbingAfter investigating the stabbing, police learned that Brantley and Erbe got into some sort of fight before Brantley is accused of stabbing Erbe in the neck. Brantley was last seen walking away from the scene. He is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached, police say. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Neighbors are expressing their collective frustration after a vandal tagged a new community mural in South Park."Pretty awful and disrespectful. A lot of time, energy and love into this piece," said Heather Johnson.At 30th and Juniper Street and 30th Street, the community mural sponsored by several neighborhood businesses was targeted by a vandal over the weekend."I think it's disgusting to be honest with you," said Brian Padgett.The phrase "#Neighborhood" was spray-painted over, replaced with the phrase "ETHNIC CLEANSING." At the bottom of the mural, the phrase "#Hipster Pacifism" was tagged in purple."Disheartening, frustrating and an act of cowardice," added Ezekiel Morphis.Neighbors believe the spray-painted messages are sounding off against the gentrification of South Park. The tagged wall is a part of a building which will soon be home to a non-profit restaurant benefiting local schools. It was once home to long-time coffeehouse priced out of the area almost two years ago."It happens in every neighborhood. As a city grows, there is change. This is not the way to handle it," said Johnson.Some paint was quickly put on the tagging, but the creators of the mural — which cost about ,000 — say it may cost another ,000 to repair. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are investigating a shooting in San Diego’s Corridor area that was reported following a vehicle crash early Tuesday morning.A DoorDash driver told ABC 10News he was on his way to make a delivery when he was involved in a collision with a car on 37th Street and El Cajon Boulevard at around 4 a.m.The other car drove off, and the DoorDash driver followed it to 37th Street and Meade Avenue until the car came to a stop.According to the delivery driver, two men got out of the car and fired shots towards him. The delivery driver said he was not struck by the gunfire and was able to drive away to call 911.A short time later, at an apartment complex in the 4600 block of 35th Street, police spotted the car that matched the delivery driver’s description.A woman believed to be the car’s driver and two others were detained for questioning by officers.There is no word on if any arrests were made. 930
