Police detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a skydiver in Zephyrhills, Florida.Management at Skydive City told Tampa-based WFTS, the skydiver was experienced and had a properly working parachute and reserve parachute. "(The skydiver) hit the ground at full speed and were killed on impact, instantly," said General Manager TK Hayes. Hayes said neither the main parachute or reserve were pulled. It was the second to last jump of the night. The skydiver broke away from a group dive, landing at the edge of the 100-acre property. "It's definitely a mystery," said Hayes. "We've had a preliminary investigation with the detectives out there and looked at the equipment, we can't see anything particularly wrong with it."Hayes said the skydiver was not using an automatic activation device, which deploys the parachute at 700 feet if still in free-fall. That piece of equipment is not required for licensed skydivers. "It's just a sad day for the community, there's nothing we can do about that now that that's happened other than hopefully we learned something from it," he said. Skydive City sees about 70,000 jumps per year. According to Hayes, it has been a couple years since they've experienced a fatal jump. At this time, police have not released the skydiver's name, pending next of kin notification.  1424

The one thing the fire couldn’t take away: spirit. Children’s spirits remain high, lifting the adults around them. The Spirit of Liberty Foundation gave them a gift this Christmas they’ll never forget, handing out stuffed animal, sweatshirts and T-shirts from the San Diego Zoo. “I’m really glad they’re donating this stuff, it’s really awesome,” said Jack, a student at the school. Jack is a seventh grader and one of the lucky ones whose home survived, but the same isn’t true for his friends. The school’s principal is also trying to provide a safe haven. “Each day we’re trying to bring smiles to their faces and today Santa did just that,” Josh Peete. 858

PHOENIX (AP) — A federal court in Maryland has ruled that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program must be restored fully, meaning it must open up to new applicants for the first time in three years.The program helps immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children to legally work and protects them from deportation. Last month, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that President Donald Trump didn't properly end the program in 2017.Roughly 650,000 people are enrolled in DACA, but only those who were already in the program when it ended have been able to renew.The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said it is reviewing the ruling.The attorney general of California, Xavier Becerra, led the multistate coalition in the lawsuit that sought to restore DACA.After the court’s ruling, Becerra said, "From the Supreme Court down, the courts have made it clear: DACA stands, and now its doors are open to new Dreamers to apply. The family said Takada died from complications from COVID-19. Takada retired from his house in 1999 to pursue a career in art, but it remains a respected fixture in high Paris fashion. Since 1993, the brand Kenzo has been owned by luxury goods company LVMH. He studied fashion in Tokyo before relocating to Paris and taking over a boutique there in 1970. PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. - Two people were shot Friday evening during a football game at Palm Beach Central High School in Florida.According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, one of the victims was located on the school property. The second victim was transported to a local hospital by a friend. Officials say both victims are currently being treated at area hospitals. Their conditions are unknown. Gender and ages of the victims have not been confirmed at this time. Initial reports from district personnel indicated the shots seem to have come from outside the stadium, the school district said. Details on this remain under investigation. Dwyer student-athletes boarded the bus and were escorted back to Dwyer High School, according to Kathy Burstein with the School District of Palm Beach County. Unaccompanied students were picked up in the school's bus loop. There were a number of law enforcement officers on site. All students are safe, no students are reported injured, according to a tweet from PBCSD.School district officials present at the football game, including school police, school principal, assistant principals and many others do not report any kind of student altercation prior to shots being fired and no student disruptions leading up to shots being fired were reported either, said Burstein. All district outdoor activities, sporting events, and practices are canceled for the weekend, including third-party rentals of athletic fields, according to the school district. Suspect information and motive are unknown at this time. The shooter is still not in custody, officials say. PBSO says this is not an active shooter situation. Palm Beach County School Board Police have requested PBSO Violent Crimes Division to assume the shooting investigation.  1882
