Colleen Grace is the first to give an in-depth view of what led up to an entire SEAL platoon being withdrawn from Iraq following a Fourth of July barbecue and the alleged sexual assault of a sailor. Grace detailed what she witnessed that night and described other misconduct. Special Warfare Operator First Class Adel A. Enayat was charged with sexual assault. He denies any wrongdoing. The AP initially withheld his name because he filed a counter complaint saying the sailor raped him. Sam’s Club is going to hire 2,000 seasonal workers to aid with the upcoming holiday season.In a press release, the retail company said they are looking for extra help as they gear up for more days of deals and an influx in shoppers.“We take our cues directly from our members, and they’re telling us they’re ready for and excited about holiday shopping this year,” said Megan Crozier, Chief Merchandising Officer, Sam’s Club in the news release. “Our merchants are making this holiday extra special for our members across categories – from food and holiday décor to one-of-a-kind gifts – with more high-quality items at amazing members-only values, and special experiences they can’t find anywhere else.”The positions will be in their fulfillment and distribution centers.Sam’s Club said the positions would be full-time. San Diegans living in their cars and recreational vehicles rallied Wednesday against a new city law that places steep restrictions on where they can stay.The City Council passed the emergency restriction in May after residents complained about safety concerns with people living in their cars.The law bans people from living in their vehicles near homes or schools, and blocks them from staying almost everywhere in the city between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m."Homeless could by anybody, it doesn't mean we're criminals," said Robert Ewing, who lives in his R.V. "Just because we ain't got no place to stay. Times are hard."The law went into effect in June, about the same time the city opened a new safe parking lot for R.V's next to SDCCU Stadium in Mission Valley. The lot, however, has largely gone unused. People who live in their vehicles describe concerns over gas mileage, location and a rule requiring them to be out by 7 a.m.Meanwhile, Disability Rights California is challenging the ordinance in court. SAN DIEGO (AP and KGTV) -- Washing Senators are remembering John McCain's momentous vote against a Republican effort to repeal the Obama-era health law. Of those remembering McCain is Sen Susan Collins, who told CNN's "State of the Union" that she and GOP colleague Lisa Murkowski of Alaska — both repeal opponents — spoke to McCain before the July 2017 vote because they knew he was struggling with the decision.Collins says he pointed to them and simply said, "You two are right!"Vice President Mike Pence was waiting to speak with McCain next, Collins says, but she knew McCain's "no" decision would stick. Collins said, "Once John McCain made up his mind about something, there was no shaking him."McCain would later famously hold up his hand and vote no, ending the measure. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 52-year-old man was struck and gravely injured Sunday in a San Diego trailer park, and the motorist who hit him in a stolen Hummer was arrested.The incident began just after 11:10 a.m. when the San Diego police received a call from Chula Vista police who were involved in the pursuit of the stolen Hummer, SDPD Lt. Andra Brown said.The Hummer was snatched from a RoadOne impound yard in Chula Vista, SDPD Lt. Bryan Brecht told the media.The vehicle initially crashed at a gas station at 1400 Melrose Ave. in Chula Vista, but continued evading police south on Interstate 5, exiting into a trailer park at 1600 Palm Ave., Brown said.Officers tried to stop the driver but he sped away and hit the pedestrian, Brown said. It appeared the collision was intentional, Brown added.The 44-year-old driver was eventually taken into custody with help from a K-9 dog deployed to stop him, Brown said. The driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries before being taken into custody. His name was not immediately available.The victim suffered severe trauma and was unresponsive when paramedics transported him to a hospital, Brown said.Because of the severity of the pedestrian's injuries, the case was being investigated by the SDPD's homicide unit, she said.Anyone with information on this crash was asked to call the homicide unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 1417
