KHARTOUM, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese official said Saturday that the China-Arab Cooperation Forum constitutes an important platform to upgrade the economic, commercial and social ties between China and the Arab world."The China-Arab Cooperation Forum is important as it constitutes one of the major mechanisms to enhance and strengthen the economic and commercial relations between the Arab states and China," Abdul-Baqui Jailani, Sudanese state minister for humanitarian affairs, told Xinhua, one week before a ministerial conference of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum scheduled for May 13, in Tianjin, China.Jailani regarded the Sino-Sudanese cooperation as a model for the Arab countries to follow suit, saying that "Chinese experience in Sudan deserves to be studied thoroughly and it deserves to be repeated elsewhere in any other African or Arab country"."I think if we take for example oil industry, exploration and production services, the Chinese have proved to be at the highest level of development in this industry in particular, and I think we can develop this in other similar countries where there are reserves of petroleum," he added.He went on to say that "China is working with full transparency; they can build confidence with others without any hindrances or obstacles."The Sudanese official further called upon the Arab and African countries as well to give the Chinese a chance to invest and cooperate, adding that "such cooperation will result in mutual benefit for both China and others nations."He affirmed that China's contribution to establishment of development projects in Sudan would help in achieving lasting stability and peace in the country, saying that "for example, if we concentrate on development, on infrastructure, we will come to peace in Darfur. China is providing good services in this respect. ""The same thing could be said about the south. We need to concentrate on developing the south and China stands with us in this respect. It is a fruitful cooperation with great benefits," he said.Jailani, meanwhile, commended the strong ties between Khartoum and Beijing, saying that "this relation is deeply-rooted in history and I think what has been achieved now between the two countries is paving the way for a lasting peace in Sudan."The fourth Ministerial Meeting of China-Arab Cooperation Forum will be held on May 13-14 in Tianjin, China. The meeting, with the theme of deepening comprehensive cooperation and realizing common development, would give impetus to the China-Arab friendship.The China-Arab Cooperation Forum was established in 2004.

BEIJING, May 17 (Xinhua) -- China hopes the United States will not exclude China when it loosens its export restrictions, Yao Jian, a spokesman with the Ministry of Commerce said here Monday.Yao's remarks came after the United States said over the weekend it might change its exports control regime.The United States should treat all countries equally and not discriminate against China in its export policies, Yao said at a press conference.U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke said in Hong Kong Sunday "concrete proposals" for changes in the exports control could be expected within the next several months.Locke said the review will help with "the sale of highly sophisticated technology that might be embedded in some of the machines and devices like wind turbines, and the software that might operate these very sophisticated systems."The United States' 1979 Export Administration Act limits the export sales of commercial high-technology goods to China. HARBIN, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Seven people were killed, and 98 more injured after a tornado and hailstorm struck northeast China's Heilongjiang Province Saturday, a local official source said Sunday.Altogether 8,502 people were affected, among whom 3,684 were evacuated, after 28 townships of Suihua City, about 120 km from the provincial capital Harbin, were hit by the violent weather from 3:15 p.m. to 5:50 p.m. Saturday, Suihua's emergency response office said in a statement.A total of 1,015 houses were toppled down in the tornado, and Minqiang Village of Gongrong township was hit the hardest, with the roofs of every house being uplifted, it said.Five people of Beilin District and one from Suihua's Lanxi County were killed. The strong wind tore through eight townships of Hailun city under the jurisdiction of Suihua, killing one more people."I was cooking at the outer room when the tornado came. I attempted to close the window, but the wind was so strong and fast that the house collapsed before I could close it," said Wang Junxia, a woman from Xinquan Village of Beilin District, Suihua City.Wang was temporarily buried beneath bricks, but she managed to crawl out of the rubble and saved by the rescuers.Relief work was underway.Two hundred quilts and more than 500 kg of bread were sent to the affected Beilin District.

BEIJING, April 19 (Xinhua) -- As of 8:00 a.m. Monday local time, there had been 1,206 aftershocks following the 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Yushu, according to statistics from the China Earthquake Administration.Among the aftershocks, 12 were above 3 magnitude, one between 6.0 and 6.9 magnitude, three between 4.0 and 4.9 magnitude and eight between 3.0 and 3.9 magnitude.There has been no more aftershocks above 3 magnitude since a 3.6 tremor occurred at 7:00 a.m. April 17.The 7.1 magnitude quake, which jolted the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu on April 14, had left at least 1,706 dead, 256 missing and 12,128 injured, as of 10 a.m. Sunday.
