BAKERSFIELD, Cali. — A California native is learning that her family tree is a lot larger than she had ever thought after growing up as an only child. Forty-one years late, she found that she has 22 half brothers and sisters that she never knew about.Jennifer Slayton said that she took a 23andme DNA test four months ago and was contacted by one of her half brothers in January. She was then introduced to her 21 other half-siblings shortly after.Slayton said there could be more siblings out there, but she's grateful to have the ones she has.She said that she first learned she was donor conceived at the age of 17. Slayton said that her father was diagnosed with a very serious form of dementia that was hereditary and this caused her to be worried that she would inherit it. That's when her mother informed her that he was not biologically her father.She said that technology limitations at the time kept her from finding her father, but in 2018 her husband wanted to try out the DNA kit for fun.After the results came back, one of her half brothers, Evan, contacted her. She asked how many of them there were and he told Slayton that she was number 21. "They're amazing, like I went and met them for the first time and I was really nervous and I walked in and it was like meeting versions of myself," Slayton said. "Like all of these people have so much in common with me and they are nice, obviously, and they are friendly and we have a lot of the same interests and the same mannerisms, we all talk with our hands a lot."Slayton has since started making new memories with her half siblings and has met her donor. Apple just bought the bulk of Intel's smartphone-modem business in a deal valued at billion.The deal includes about 2,200 Intel employees who will now join Apple, as well as intellectual property, equipment and leases, the two companies said in a joint release put out Thursday.Apple will now hold over 17,000 wireless technology patents, according to the release. Intel will still be able to develop modems for non-smartphone applications, such as PCs and autonomous vehicles.The deal still must undergo regulatory approval, but both companies said it's expected to close in late 2019.The acquisition will give Apple more of a role in developing key parts of its smartphones at a time when iPhone sales are faltering as devices last longer and people have stopped replacing them as frequently. An Oregon casino and resort announced it is temporarily closing after learning that one of its employees is a "presumptive positive" for coronavirus. The Wildhorse Resort & Casino said the closure will give their business an opportunity clean the facility. The closure affects the complex's hotel, theater and convention center. BRIDGETON, N.J. – Authorities have released a sketch of a man they want to speak with in the case of a 5-year-old girl who went missing from a New Jersey park. The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office says the girl, Dulce Maria Alavez, disappeared from the Bridgeton City Park Recreational Area at about 5 p.m. on Sept. 16. The sketch that prosecutors released Tuesday is of a person who has been reported to have been seen in the park around the time Dulce went missing. A witness who recently came forward says the person was with one or two children under the age of 5 years old. The person was reported to have been wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans and a white baseball style hat at the time. The man is reported to be Hispanic, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a slender build, and between 30 and 35 years old. Prosecutors want to clarify that the sketch is not from the child witness who gave authorities an initial description which led to an Amber Alert on Sept. 17. “We are asking this person (or anyone who may recognize him) to come forward as investigators wish to speak with him as it is believed that he may have information that is helpful in determining the circumstances that led to Dulce’s disappearance,” prosecutors wrote.Anyone who can identify this individual or who has information about the case is asked to contact Bridgeton Police Department at 856-451-0033.
