BEIJING, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- China's ChangAn Auto Co., Ltd., a leading domestic auto maker, announced Saturday that its sales volume rose more than 82 percent year on year last month.     The Chongqing-based company sold 107,863 units of vehicles in July, up 82.4 percent year on year, it said in a statement to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.     The company produced 118,037 units of vehicles in July, up 64.9 percent year on year.     The Shenzhen-listed firm's shares had fallen 5.24 percent to 10.31 yuan a share Friday before the release of the report.

CHENGDU, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has said that reconstruction work of earthquake-shattered areas in Sichuan Province must still overcome challenges before it can be judged a complete success.     Wen made the remarks while visiting the quake zone from Thursday to Saturday. It was his eighth visit to the region since the May 12 earthquake last year that left almost 90,000 people dead or missing. BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC)plans to launch the third stage of its current campaign to deepen the study and practice of the Scientific Outlook on Development, the kernel ideology of the CPC Central Committee with Hu Jintao as the general secretary.     The third stage, which starts in September and ends in February2010, is designed to carry out at grassroots level, involving 1.22million Party organizations and 37.5 million Party members, accounting for 32.8 percent and 50 percent of the total numbers, respectively.     These were remarked by Xi Jinping, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, at Friday's meeting here to summarize the experience of the second-stage of the CPC's educational drive and usher in the third stage.     The campaign was initiated by the CPC Central Committee in September 2008, with a goal to promote the study and practice of the Scientific Outlook on Development in the whole Party. The first and second stages were conducted at higher-level Party committees.     The third stage will mainly involve Party organizations of townships, communities, villages, residential blocks, secondary schools, middle and elementary schools, hospitals, private companies, and non-government organizations, according to Xi, who is also a Secretariat member of the CPC Central Committee and head of the CPC Central Committee's leading group for the campaign.     He urged Party organizations at different levels to make substantial efforts to help "the massive Party members have a deeper understanding of the Scientific Outlook on Development."     Third stage will be focused on resolving critical problems concerning the interests of the masses and it should be integrated with the celebration of the 60th founding anniversary of the People's Republic, Xi said.

PINGYAO, Shanxi, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- A photo exhibition exclusively dedicated to Canadian surgeon Henry Norman Bethune opened Saturday at the Pingyao International Photography Festival in north China's Shanxi Province.     Bethune is a household name in China, a country where he saved numerous lives and sacrificed his own in 1939 during China's War of Resistance Against Japanese aggression.     "He is noble-minded and pure, a man of moral integrity and above vulgar interests, a man who is of value to the people," Chairman Mao wrote in his article In Memory of Norman Bethune.     The exhibition consists of 41 photos of Dr. Bethune living and working in China, some of which had never been shown before.     "As Canadians, we are all proud to be associated with this visionary adventurer and deeply touched by the respect and recognition shown to him here in China," said Canadian Ambassador to China, David Mulroney.     Most of the pictures were provided by Wang Yan, daughter of ShaFei, who was a forefather of China's news photography and a close friend of Bethune.     "I remember that I was touched when I first read about Bethune in my school days and now it feels like looking at the pictures of an old friend who has just passed away," said visitor Wu Jun.     "Many people love Bethune for they have learnt his deeds and spirit in Chairman Mao's article while my affection for him comes from his friendship with my father," Wang said. "Bethune was my father's mentor as he exemplified the essence of communism."     Upon his death Bethune left his Kodak Retina camera to Sha Fei.     Bethune also healed Japanese soldiers, took pictures of them, which were sent back to Japan.     "He wished the Japanese people would protest against the war when they saw how their sons were suffering on battlefield. He was a true humanist," Wang said.     Just before he died, Bethune wrote in a letter, saying that the last two years (those he spent in China) have been the most significant, the most meaningful years of his life.
