SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A new study looks at the number of drunk driving arrests in cities since ridesharing apps were created.San Diego was included in Moll Law Group study, which found DUI arrests fell 32 percent since Uber launched in June 2012. Lyft launched in San Diego the following year.  In an email to 10News last summer, SDPD Officer Mark McCullough credited the decrease in DUI arrests to the department's education and enforcement, as well as alternative transportation options. 509

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new report out Thursday shows that the United States will gain 23 new million cities within the next year, and San Diego didn't shy away from the list. According to Zillow, a million city is defined as a city with a median home value of million or more.It’s no surprise that San Diego has five such cities. Included in the list is Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, Coronado, Solana Beach and Encinitas.One of those cities, Encinitas, became a million city within the last year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new report shows where San Diego ranks among best and worst cities in California to retire. According to WalletHub, San Diego takes the 47th spot on the list among 257 other cities throughout California. America’s Finest City ranked 51st for quality of life, 139th for health care and 4th in the activities ranking. San Diego did take the top spot in California in several categories. According to WalletHub, San Diego has the most museums and fishing facilities per capita when compared with other California cities. San Diego did, however, rank quite a bit lower when it comes to adjusted cost of living and percentage of population aged 65 and older, placing 149th and 145th respectively. According to the WalletHub ranking, the best cities in California for retirement are Los Gatos, Los Altos and Walnut Creek. The lowest-ranking cities are Modesto, San Bernardino and Stockton. To compile the list WalletHub compared more than 250 cities across 28 key metrics. 997

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Paradise Hills family is in search of a good Samaritan after a young autistic man was mugged and beaten for his brand new iPhone, just blocks from his home.The incident played out along Briarwood Road on an afternoon two weeks ago. Garrett De Leon had just gotten off work and off the bus.His pride and joy was in his right hand - a new iPhone 10 that his parents gave to him for his birthday. Deleon was texting his mom that he was blocks from home, when it happened."This guy came from behind me and snatched my phone and pushed me to the ground," said De Leon.De Leon says he fought back, the two struggling on the ground. "He pushed me again and runs to the car," said De Leon.Deleon says he chased the man - a tall, lean black man wearing a beanie - to an older black car, where the man jumped in the back seat, the window rolled down."He tells his buddy to take off immediately," said De Leon. In the meantime, the thief was hitting De Leon, who says he was delivering his own blows through the window."I had too much adrenaline and didn't feel pain. Hopped up on anger and determined to get at them and at the phone," said De Leon.After the car started up, it dragged De Leon some 100 feet before he was thrown off, bloodied with cuts and and scrapes, and a sprained hand.Soon after, a Hispanic woman in her 20s, with a baby in her back seat, raced to his side. She tended to him before calling 9-1-1."Shows there are good people. She was more worried about me than her baby," said De Leon.When help arrived and she left, De Leon never got her name. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new SANDAG report found that when it compared to the region's Caucasian population, Black and Hispanic communities are more than four times as likely to live in an area impacted by COVID-19 and unemployment.The report says more than two-thirds of the county's Black (67%) and Hispanic (70%) populations live in zip codes with higher than average unemployment rates. About half of Black (52%) and Hispanic (49%) San Diegans live in zip codes with higher than average COVID-19 cases as well.In comparison, the study says Caucasian (14%) and Asian (24%) populations are less impacted in both cases."As regional elected officials and leaders, it is important for us to think strategically about how to coordinate with the Black and Hispanic communities – and all communities in need – to determine which programs and policies can put in place to guide an equitable recovery as businesses begin to reopen and as people return to work or look for new jobs," said SANDAG Chair and Poway Mayor Steve Vaus.SANDAG says the most affected areas reside in the southern part of the county.
