SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A thief struck an ugly chord with residents in a Del Cerro neighborhood, after zeroing in on a porch and warming up his pipes.    Just off College Avenue, Katherine - who asked us not to reveal her full name - says the first feeling was confusion when she and her husband returned home from Julian on Saturday night.  On their porch, the couple says they found an opened letter addressed to a man in El Cajon. When they looked at the surveillance video, they saw him:  a casually dressed man pulls up in a pickup truck.            "He is holding the letter so he has a plan, a story if anybody stops him," said Katherine.On the video, the man heads right for the package at the front door and swipes it.  He throws the package in the truck, tosses the letter and as gets back into the truck, he appears to belt out a note.  As he backs out of the driveway, he keeps on singing."The singing clearly shows he's completely comfortable, really cocky...just going to his next gig.  I think it's his weekend job," said Katherine.Katherine can't help but smile about the likely sour note he experienced once he looked inside and found - a dog brush and mug.  Now she's hoping the video will lead to an arrest."He's clearly done this before.  No doubt he's out doing this again," said Katherine. 1414

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An Escondido man who pleaded guilty to firing several rounds into the air in a crowded area when he couldn't get tickets to an Ice Cube concert was sentenced to three years behind bars Wednesday. Daniel Elizarraras, 22, pleaded guilty to discharging a gun at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in early September of 2018. Authorities say Elizarraras raised the gun before shooting into the air while he was in a large crowd near the ticket booth. Elizarraras was shot three times in the torso and once in the arm after he pointed the gun at a deputy. RELATED: Man admits he opened fire before Ice Cube concert at Del Mar FairgroundsElizarraras was facing up to 19 years behind bars, but a charge of assault on a peace officer with a semi-automatic weapon was dismissed as part of his plea. Defense Attorney Pedro Bernal said Elizarraras was severely depressed and trying to kill himself by suicide by cop. They asked for a lower sentence.However, the prosecution said he acted violently, causing chaos, and the situation could have been much worse.Judge Kathleen Lewis agreed saying, "I think it’s amazing that no one was injured or killed in this circumstance.”Before the shooting, officials said the venue was at capacity and began turning people away from the horse races and concert. Fights erupted between security guards and would-be concert-goers who were upset that they wouldn’t be allowed into the show. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego Midwife is living her dream of opening her own birth center, helping minority women.We met Nikki Helms in July when her GoFundMe was off the charts, raising more than 1,000.She had been a licensed midwife for about a year and wanted to open a birth center. Fast forward to December and her dream is coming true."We've got signage and I stood at the foot of my stairs and cried about that," Helms said filled with gratitude. The community has continued to wrap their arms around her mission."It's really just been amazing and overwhelming, and I feel so blessed," she said wiping a tear from the corner of her eye. "And so grateful and I get teared up every time I start talking about it because it gives me the opportunity to go care for families and you know it just blows my mind."Since July she's raised another ,000 and packages keep arriving on her doorstep with items for the birth center.Her mission is to support women through childbirth and beyond. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A University City mother is looking for answers after her daughter was greeted with pornographic images on two consecutive days of remote learning.Chelsea Butler says it happened during her 14-year-old daugther's remote Physical Education class last Thursday morning. Her daughter is a freshman at University City High School."When she logged in, the screen was filled with pornography. It was being streamed during her Zoom call," said Butler.Butler says her stunned daughter quickly logged off and told her about it."Made her extremely uncomfortable. She was really upset by it," said Butler.Butler emailed the school and got a call back from the assistant principal, along with an email sent by the school. Both confirmed the Zoom bomb and an investigation by school police and the administration."The fact my daughter was exposed to it against her will is very upsetting," said Butler.The next day, her daughter tried to log in -- same time, same class -- only to be greeted by more pornographic images. This time, there were dozens of extra people in the room."They apparently got in by stealing students' screen names and changing them by one letter in order to access the classroom. Her screen name was one of the ones used. That's why she was even more upset," said Butler.The incidents is putting remote learning security under the microscope. Butler says right now, her daughter logs onto a password protected web portal to get her Zoom meeting ID.Her daughter enters a virtual waiting room, before the teacher invites her into the class. Butler isn't sure how, but says the precautions clearly must be enhanced.Across the country, numerous news reports have detailed similar Zoom bombs during remote learning involving pornography. Butler says her daughter won't be going back to that class until changes are made. So far, the school has excused the absences."A student just going to class every day should not have to be exposed to porn," said Butler.ABC 10News has reached out to San Diego Unified School District for a comment and are waiting to hear back. 2097

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego public figure is speaking out after being hit three times by distracted drivers over 8 years.Monica Zech is the Public Information Officer for the City of El Cajon. Her passion is public safety, specifically behind the wheel. She started as a Traffic Reporter in 1984 and had a 30-year career in broadcasting. She immediately found out, through reporting on first responders, how many crashes were preventable. "When my father was hit about eight years after that, when I started lecturing, then the DUI issue became prevalent," Zech said her father was walking across the street in a marked cross-walk when a drunk driver hit him in 1992.August 29th, 2011 a distracted driver ran a red light slamming into her. The crash was so violent surgeons told her she should've been paralyzed, "it was shocking to hear that. They said is this your MRI? Are you sure? I said I'm sure that's my MRI. They said well we're surprised you're sitting here, you should be paralyzed. We have patients with the same MRI and they're in a wheelchair."She now has a titanium plate that straightens her spine and protects her in case she is in a future crash.The next crash was in traffic on I-5, February of 2017. "I kept noticed his head bobbing down, looking down, I realized he was on his cell phone and wham! He hits me from behind," she said.Tuesday she was hit from behind again. This time she says she stopped at a red light about to turn onto I-8 Eastbound from La Mesa Boulevard. She said the other driver's airbags deployed, she pulled over and was extremely apologetic, saying "I was looking at my cellphone, I do Door Dash, and I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry." 10News has reached out to DoorDash for a comment and have not heard back.An excuse more common with a startling statistic from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. 1860
