HOUSTON, Texas -- Only 536 people in the world know what it is like to be blasted from Earth and launched into space. NASA astronaut Stan Love is one of them. Love went into space for the first time in 2008, with NASA’s STS-122 mission. “It was an amazing experience,” said Love, “[of] driving out to the launch pad, strapping into the gigantic steaming hissing spaceship and having the countdown and then all the shaking and thrust of launch coming up into space and the engine shuts off and you are floating weightlessness.” Love grew up in Oregon and as a kid, with mountains all around him, he enjoyed exploring wonders on the Earth. At night though, he’d look to the sky and wondered about exploring space. So, getting there in 2009 was a dream come true, but it also inspired a bigger dream. He wanted to help more people get to space. “I look forward to a world where more people can have the experience of flying in space, and maybe a little more time to enjoy looking out the window and seeing the Earth, seeing the start,” said Love. For the past decade, he has focused on making space exploration possible for more people. “I’m working on the cockpit displays and controls and controls sticks the computer displays and the switches on the Orion spacecraft which is going to fly Artemis missions, “ Love added. The Artemis mission, expected to launch next year, will mark a big moment in space history: a moment where NASA plans on handing over travel to Earth’s lower orbit to the commercial industry. “We are to the point where American industry, not just American government, can handle that,” Love said. “There are a bunch of companies that want to start flying tourists on little suborbital hops.” Those suborbital hops are around 0,000, but as a lower-Earth orbit economy develops, those prices are expected to reduce drastically. In addition, allowing industry to focus on lower Earth’s orbit will allow NASA to focus on Artemis’ true goal of getting back to the moon, and preparing it for a possible long-term human presence. “That’s sort of the next logical step,” Love explains. “We think that in deep craters of the moon’s south pole, there is a lot of water ice and other materials that we can use to help start building a lunar economy based on the moon.”The possibilities from there are truly endless. For years, millennials have been called out for job hopping and always looking for the next best thing. So, what’s causing the job hop and what can companies do to retain their younger employees?Charlie Harding is the CEO of Let’s Roam and he’s a millennial. He says he knows what the 30-somethings are looking for when it comes to a job."If a company is rigid and inflexible, it allows employees to job hunt or job hop, especially millennials," he says.However, the job market is tight right now and it’s giving millennials the option to choose the job that’s right for them. That could be part of the reason why they are job hopping.“They have a ton of confidence that if they were to leave that it would be OK,” says Karen Policastro, with the international recruiting firm Robert Half. “And if they go somewhere and it didn’t work out, they could just go somewhere else.”Millennials are in the driver seat and want new and unique experiences.Policastro says there’s a lot of competition, and millennials are looking for bigger paychecks, work life balance, healthy company culture, potential for career growth and a manager that values them.“If they aren’t getting it where they are, they are quick to leave,” Policastro says.Seventy-five percent of employees ages 18 to 34 view job hopping as beneficial compared to 51 percent of workers 55 and older.“I think there is a stigma that there is a lack of trust and loyalty,” Harding explains. “But it’s really up to the company to build that trust and loyalty. If they are leaving, it’s not because of the employee; it’s because of the company."No matter the generation, Harding believes it’s fairly simple for companies to retain employees.“If you are able to make employees happy and have a strong leader and understand what they want and how you can help them accomplish their goals, then you can do that,” Harding says. 1888

  

Former Vice President Joe Biden is projected to win the Democratic primaries in Michigan, Missouri and Mississippi on Tuesday, after winning 10 out of 14 states on Super Tuesday.
