A woman died of COVID-19 while aboard a Spirit Airlines flight between Las Vegas and Dallas earlier this year, according to USA Today and The Washington Post.According to USA Today, the July 24 flight was diverted to Albuquerque, New Mexico after a member of the flight crew reported that the woman was unresponsive. The woman was pronounced dead on arrival.News of the woman's death was announced Sunday by Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins while giving an update about the virus. Jenkins noted that the woman, who was in her 30s, had underlying health conditions.A spokesperson told USA Today that officials at the Albuquerque International Sunport did not learn until later that the woman had been infected with COVID-19, and treated the emergency as they would any other health emergency.A spokesperson for Spirit Airlines told The Washington Post that the airline has offered condolences to the woman's family and that it is confident in its procedures in dealing with the virus.“Our Flight Attendants have in-depth training to respond to medical emergencies and utilize several resources, including communicating with our designated on-call medical professionals on the ground, using onboard medical kits and personal protective equipment, and receiving assistance from credentialed medical personnel traveling on the flight,” Spirit Airlines told The Washington Post. 1381

After Fox News host Sean Hannity accused late night comedian Jimmy Kimmel of being a "pervert," Kimmel said on Sunday that he is ending his war of words with Hannity. Kimmel drew Hannity's ire earlier this week after Kimmel played a clip of First Lady Melania Trump reading to children during the White House Easter Egg Roll. Kimmel then joked with his sidekick, who is often lampooned on the show for having a thick accent, saying that he could be First Lady. "Jimmy, you're a despicable disgrace," Hannity told Kimmel. "Ass clown Kimmel," Hannity added. Kimmel responded to the criticism on Thursday's show by calling Hannity an "ass circus." Hannity then fired a number of tweets with the hashtag #PervertKimmel and calling Kimmel "Harvey Weinstein Jr.," a response to a "Man Show" segment where Kimmel would ask women to guess what is in his pants. The segment involved Kimmel asking women to feel the outside of his pockets to guess what was hidden inside. Kimmel by responding that Hannity was trivializing "the horrors of Harvey Weinstein by comparing them to televised comedy bits in which every woman was a willing participant who gladly signed a release.""Stop picking on woman that can’t fightback Mr Harvey Weinstein jr," Hannity responded. "And maybe pledge not to ask 18 year old girls to touch your crotch and put their mouths on it like you did. Why don’t You Be a grown up and simply apologize."On Sunday, it appeared Kimmel had enough.  1542

After fighting off insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan, Mike Cutone returned back to the streets of Springfield, Massachusetts, only to discover that the situation wasn’t much better at home.During the late 2000s, it wasn’t out of the normal to see gang members openly riding up and down the community’s streets, openly brandishing assault rifles. The crime problem had gotten so bad that heroin was being sold in broad daylight, just blocks away from the state police barracks, where Cutone was stationed as an officer.“The citizens didn’t feel safe, people felt like prisoners in their own homes,” Cutone recalled of those years.Having recently returned from a counter insurgency tour overseas, Cutone could see that the way the crime ridden neighborhoods were being policed wasn’t working. So, he came up with a plan, drawn directly from his experience as a Green Beret. The idea was called Counter Criminal Continuum Policing or C3. Cutone partnered with Springfield police to create the new concept that focused on gaining the trust of the community instead of just arresting criminals. For the past 12 years, community leaders, city police, state police, residents and business owners have met once a week as part of the C3 program. From getting to know local business owners, to knocking on doors, the program’s foundation is rooted in winning over the trust of the community in an effort to address crime. And it’s working.“You aren’t going to arrest your way out of crime. We weren’t looking at crime through the lens of the people that live there. It starts with law enforcement understanding what these communities are going through,” Cutone said.As the nation currently struggles with police reform, Cutone sees this as a model other city could emulate.“Because of the trust factor, we built legitimacy with the community and meeting with them on a weekly basis, we want to hear what they have to say and solve these problems in their communities. Right now, we’re not hearing about partnership we’re hearing about division, division never wins there has to be a partnership,” he added.Although parts of the city are still dealing with crime, the areas infiltrated by the C3 program are almost unrecognizable. On streets where gang members once dealt drugs in broad daylight, neighbors’ biggest complaints are now typically about illegal dumping. And community leaders can see the long-term impacts the program is having.“We can see businesses are coming back and young people can get a job. Now we look at the city as being one neighborhood because we’re all working together for the same cause,” said Neil Boyd, a local Bishop in the area. 2657

About 30,000 doses of an experimental coronavirus treatment are shipping out Tuesday. It's Regeneron's antibody cocktail that got an emergency use authorization (EUA) from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) over the weekend. It’s also the same treatment President Donald Trump got last month.Patients who are diagnosed early with COVID-19 may be eligible. The goal is to keep them from getting sicker, so they don't have to go to the hospital. But the treatment still needs to be given through an IV.“The challenge is there has to be a place to administer it, so a place where you can have COVID patients in an infusion setting where they can be treated and monitored. This is not straight-forward,” said Dr. Helen Boucher, Chief of Geographic Medicine and Infectious Diseases at Tufts Medical Center.Any transfusion centers administering the IV will charge for those services.“The medicine itself is paid for by the government right now under the emergency use authorization. Those other charges have to be managed and they'll be managed by insurance, Medicare or Medicaid,” said Boucher. It's unclear if patients will need to request the treatment or if doctors will choose who to prescribe it to.In trying to get it to areas that need it most, the federal government will work with states on distribution. The problem is everywhere is seeing spikes right now.“We know that at least for 2020, the supply is going to be very low, so many of us in the infectious disease community and all the health care community are concerned that this resource will be allocated in an equitable way,” said Boucher. After this initial rollout, Regeneron says it expects to have 80,000 doses ready by the end of the month, 200,000 by the first week of January, and then 300,000 by the end of that month. 1796
