I am sure we will work together again in the future," Trump said in a written statement.Hicks' departure capped her meteoric rise from Trump Organization communications aide to the upper crust of power in Washington in just a few years, during which Hicks sought to maintain a remarkably low profile for someone in her position.Her resignation will undoubtedly reverberate for months to come inside the West Wing, where Trump will find himself for the first time in more than three years without the constant presence of his most loyal aide -- who is among the handful of aides who worked with Trump at his company, during the rollicking campaign and into the White House.At just 29, Hicks is now expected to return to the private sector with the heading of former White House communications director, a label of prestige that can unlock top positions at blue chip companies, six-figure TV deals and profitable, best-selling books.Some of those could be in the offing for Hicks, who has remained a mystery to many Americans despite her proximity to power and influential role.But Hicks will not exit the White House unstained, having drawn the scrutiny of special counsel Robert Mueller over her role in crafting the misleading statement about Donald Trump Jr.'s meeting with a Russian lawyer promising dirt on Hillary Clinton during the 2016 campaign.Hicks was one of the White House officials involved in crafting the statement aboard Air Force One that claimed Trump Jr., the President's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort took the meeting with the lawyer primarily to discuss US policy on Russian adoptions -- rather than because Trump Jr. believed the lawyer would provide incriminating information on Clinton from the Russian government.Hicks also came under fire more recently over her involvement in crafting the White House's initial defense of Rob Porter, the White House staff secretary who resigned in disgrace after two of his ex-wives publicly accused him of domestic abuse.Hicks, who at the time was dating Porter, did not recuse herself from the matter. Instead, she urged other White House officials to put out a robust defense of Porter in the face of the allegations.Hicks was one of Trump's first hires as he assembled a lean team of aides who would launch his improbable presidential campaign. From then until his election, she was a constant presence by his side -- traveling to nearly every rally, hovering within earshot during interviews and always prepared to type out a bombastic tweet as dictated by her boss.Hicks, who first entered the White House as director of strategic communications, rose to the position of communications director after her predecessor Anthony Scaramucci flamed out in just 10 days, after attacking fellow White House aides in a vulgarity-laden interview.The pick marked a 180-degree turn from the White House's earlier attempts to install a seasoned Republican strategist in the communications director post and was a tacit acknowledgment that wooing such a candidate was likely not in the cards.The Greenwich, Connecticut, native officially entered Trump's orbit in 2014, after the President's daughter Ivanka Trump poached Hicks from the public affairs firm where Trump had been a client. Hotels are still struggling to fill rooms like they were before an avalanche of cancellations starting in March.Now, travelers are slowly returning to train stations, airports, and hotels.“This is something that none of us were expecting or were prepared for,” said Daniel del Olmo, the President and COO of Sage Hotel Management, a Sage Hospitality Group company. Sage Hospitality Group manages 52 hotels across the U.S.“We went from basically a level of revenue of million on a daily basis to effectively ,000 per day in early May,” del Olmo said.“The economic impact has been something that no one could have ever prepared for, you could not have prepared for it financially, you could not have even prepared for it psychologically or emotionally,” said Chip Rogers, President of the American Hotel & Lodging Association. “2020 will go down on record of having the lowest occupancy in the history of the hotel industry and that includes during the Great Depression.”The association represented the entire industry from large brands to small hotels.For smaller companies, the impact of COVID-19 is especially difficult on their bottom line. “Well over 60% of all hotels are actually classified as small businesses by the Small Business Association,” Rogers said.“In the third week of March, we found ourselves having to furlough over 90% of our staff,” del Olmo said.“With no further assistance, about two thirds of hotels say they cannot make it another six months,” Rogers said. Del Olmo said they haven’t reached that point.“We have not had to permanently close, thankfully, any of our properties,” he said. But others have. Fewer visitors means less money and less work.“We’re right at almost 2 million jobs lost in the hotel industry,” Rogers said.Del Olmo said Sage Hospitality had to furlough 5,000 employees, then eventually lay off 4,000. “What keeps us up at night,” Del Olmo said, “is how we bring our associates back to work.”In the meantime, the group is providing help for former employees. “We initially established a Sage Associate Relief Fund, which allowed us to basically provide pantry items to our associates in need,” he said.While employees still on the job were given more tasks to help fill the gap. “Everybody basically on the teams is doing multiple jobs that, in the past, they might have never done before. We have general managers that on a daily basis strip beds and run the parking,” Del Olmo explained.As hotels continue to balance health, safety and running a business, they are getting creative with ways to bring in revenue, such as hosting micro weddings and hallways concerts with musicians.“Basically roaming the halls. You basically could be listening from the comfort and safety of the entry from your room,” Del Olmo said.Even with the creative new solutions, Rogers said without aid or an uptick in travel, some hotels may suffer.“We may be a much smaller industry in the next couple of years but we will adapt,” Rogers said. 2988

From millennials to baby boomers, almost everyone is affected by the opioid epidemic.While the issue touches so many people, a study done by Stericycle shows that Americans aren't as educated as they could be when it comes to disposing their leftover opioids. The study indicates that leftover opioids are proving to be a large source of this national epidemic. Sharing opioids: The study digs into people's habits when they are prescribed medications and how they usually dispose of them. It found that 74 percent of people think sharing and selling unused prescriptions is contributing to the growth of the epidemic. While a majority of Americans feel this way, the study also found that Millennials are 68 percent less likely than Baby Boomers to agree that sharing or selling their unused prescriptions is a contributing factor. Millennials also aren't concerned about sharing their leftover opioids. Compared to Baby Boomers, Millenials are more than twice as likely to share their unused prescriptions with a family member, and 33 percent more likely to have used an opioid recreationally in the last six months.Holding onto the medication:While most Americans think sharing is contributing to the problem, 30 percent admitted to keeping leftover prescriptions for future use out of a fear of an illness returning. Collection of opioids: The study reveals that 15 percent of these people hanging onto their medication are doing so because they don't know how to dispose of them. 68 percent of people agree that having access to safe and secure disposal methods would help the epidemic, but 83 percent admit they have never participated in these available programs. GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers overnight killed the bear they suspect attacked a 5-year-old girl early Sunday morning near Grand Junction.CPW says they saw the bear they believe to have been involved in the attack walking up to a home about a half-mile away from where the girl was attacked in east Orchard Mesa. The bear was killed before it entered one of three traps that had been set.The agency said officers are “confident” the bear is the same one involved in the attack based on its behavior, but they will continue searching for other bears in the area.The bear’s carcass will be transported to the CPW Wildlife Health Laboratory in Fort Collins for a necropsy."The necropsy, along with DNA results will provide the confirmation, but we are confident we have the right bear," said Area Wildlife Manager Kirk Oldham. "However, we will leave all three traps in place for the time being out of an abundance of caution."The girl, 5-year-old Kimberly Cyr, had gone outside around 2:30 a.m. Sunday to investigate noises she thought were coming from her dog, her mother told CPW officials.But the mother heard her daughter screaming and went outside to see a “large black bear” dragging her daughter. The bear dropped the girl when her mother screamed.Cyr was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction, where she received around six-dozen stitches, her mother said. HAWAII — There was a close call at a preschool in Hawaii.The Hawaii State Department of Health says a classroom assistant mistook Pine-Sol for apple juice while serving snacks.The assistant at Kilohana United Methodist Church in East Oahu was preparing a snack for the children and grabbed a bottle of the cleaning liquid from a clean-up cart in the kitchen on November 27.The assistant apparently mistook it for apple juice because of its similar color, the school's director told the health department inspector.A classroom teacher smelled the cleaning product and stopped students from drinking it.EMS evaluated three students who took small sips of the cleaning liquid, but none of them needed treatment.One parent whose child was in the class says she was shocked a mistake like that could happen.The State Health Department says each year about a dozen people accidentally ingest Pine-Sol, and half of them are kids.CNN contributed to this report. 966
