OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A car reportedly flew off a freeway in North San Diego County, causing a chain reaction collision.A 20-year-old woman driving a Buick reportedly careened off westbound SR-78 near El Camino Real, through the fence separating the freeway from the Vista Way, and collided head-on with a Ford Thunderbird being driven by a 47-year-old woman traveling eastbound. The collision set off a chain reaction, sideswiping a Nissan van towing a small boat. The boat then came loose from its trailer and flew into the westbound lanes of Vista Way, striking a Toyota Prius, being driven by a 43-year-old man, and a Chrysler 300 being driven by a 95-year-old man.The driver and a male passenger in the Buick both sustained major injuries and were airlifted to Scripps La Jolla hospital. Another male passenger sitting in the back seat of the Buick received minor injuries and was taken to Palomar Medical Center. The driver of the Thunderbird was slightly injured as well, but not taken to a hospital. No other injuries were reported.Police are investigating what led to the Buick driving off the freeway, but said they do not suspect alcohol or drugs to have been a factor. 1216

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Carole Baskin of “Tiger King” fame is being sued for defamation by a former assistant. As part of the lawsuit, the daughters of Baskin’s former husband are seeking more information about what happened to their father, who disappeared mysteriously more than two decades ago. The amended complaint to an earlier lawsuit was filed Tuesday in state court in Tampa by Don Lewis’ three daughters as well as his former assistant, Anne McQueen. The lawsuit says Baskin defamed McQueen by posting a video diary entry on YouTube earlier this month in which she says McQueen played a role in Lewis’ disappearance. Lawyers for Baskin said they couldn’t comment on pending litigation. 700

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A major turning point for the town of Oceanside was the creation of Camp Pendleton."It was just a village, Oceanside was just a village and all of a sudden you have all these workers coming into Oceanside for a place to sleep, a place to eat," said Faye Jonason, History and Museum Director at Camp Pendleton since 1996.According to the Oceanside Historical Society, the town's population more than doubled in five years. Restaurants, schools, and hotels were bursting at the seams. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor spurred the U.S. Navy to purchase the 132,000 acres of Rancho Santa Margarita y las Flores Mexican land grant.
