SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Crime Stoppers released new video Wednesday of a suspected arsonist they believe set several fires in the Point Loma and Ocean Beach areas last month.San Diego Metro Arson Strike Team investigators say during the early hours of Sept. 28, between 12:30 a.m. and 5:03 a.m., six separate fires were started in the backyards of homes. In the video, the person can be seen walking with what appears to be a piece of paper in one hand and cigarette in the other, before disappearing from the video. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and community leaders broke ground Tuesday on a Mission Bay park makeover in honor of a woman who died serving her community. Maruta Gardner was struck and killed by a DUI driver in 2016 while she was removing graffiti. The park in Bonita Cove is being named in her honor and receive a “much-needed makeover” for the playground, city officials say. Security lighting will also be enhanced. The cost of the park improvements will be .4 million and the project should be completed by fall 2020.Maggie Frazier, a friend of Gardner's, told 10News, "She'd be dancing in her red cowboy boots and jumping for joy. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police have identified the victim and suspect involved in a deadly downtown stabbing on July 1.According to police, 43-year-old Canthon E. Tripplett was stabbed on the 400 block of Fifth Avenue around 2:30 a.m.When they arrived, officers found a companion of the man providing first aid. The man was taken to the hospital where he later died, police say.RELATED: Man stabbed to death in downtown San DiegoAfter investigating the stabbing, police learned that Tripplett was injured during a fight with two men on the sidewalk. A man matching the description, David Zertuche, 30, was arrested for murder and has been booked into jail for the homicide. 687

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County health officials reported Friday 11 hospitalizations due to vaping. Those who have been hospitalized range from 17 to 70 years old, according to County of San Diego Communications Specialist Tom Christensen. The illnesses come as U.S. health officials urge people to stop vaping until they can determine the cause of serious breathing illnesses. Symptoms include shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain and vomiting. Some 450 cases and as many as five deaths have been identified in 33 states, including California. However, many of those who were sickened said they had been vaping THC. There's been a split among public health experts about the value of vaping nicotine. Some argue e-cigarettes are not as lethal as conventional cigarettes and can be a valuable aide to smokers trying to kick the habit But others say studies have not established that adult smokers who try vaping end up quitting smoking long term. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego police are looking for a man accused of committing a lewd act in the Morena neighborhood.The incident happened on Aug. 12, shortly before 4:30 p.m. A home security camera caught the man stopping on the sidewalk and engaging in the lewd act as he crept near a woman that was gardening outside her home.Police say the woman had her back turned to the man, and she never knew he was there."He was within maybe four or five feet at the time," the woman's husband, Jeremy Pritchett, said. "That's frightening about the situation, someone can creep up to you within 4 feet, and you have no idea."A car drove by, and Pritchett said it scared the man away. Pritchett was home at the time but didn't know what had happened until a few minutes after the man took off. He found out after looking through his security camera footage.San Diego police officers say they have identified the man in the video, and they are going to issue a warrant for his arrest.
