SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Health officials in San Diego County reported 269 new COVID-19 infections Sunday, bringing the total to 54,583 since mid-February, and two new deaths, bringing the overall fatality total to 870.The two deaths were men reported to have died earlier this month. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A pair of thieves stole a safe and pistol-whipped a woman during a home-invasion robbery in the Jamacha-Lomita neighborhood, police said Tuesday.The robbery happened shortly before 5:10 p.m. Monday at a group home on Blackstone Court, a short, dead-end street off Meadowbrook Drive south of Jamacha Road, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.A man and a woman entered through the back door of the home, then began asking around for the manager of the home, Buttle said. When a 40-year-old woman told them the manager lived upstairs, the pair began looking around and the male suspect spotted a safe.The man picked up the safe and an altercation ensued, during which he pistol-whipped the 40-year-old victim, the officer said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Initial results are expected in the next few days on previously untested rape evidence kits that will help identify offenders who may potentially be linked to other sexual assaults, San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan announced Tuesday.Earlier this year, the District Attorney's Office, working with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, contracted with a private lab, Bode Cellmark Forensics in Lorton, Virginia, to test about 1,000 untested sexual assault kits. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman and a man were attacked by a man with a knife in the East Village area of San Diego and the suspect was at large this morning.The 32-year-old woman was sitting near a Jack in the Box restaurant in the 1100 block of C Street, near Park Boulevard, at 10:40 p.m. Friday when a man walked up to her and, without saying anything, cut the left side of her face with a knife and ran away northbound on Park Boulevard, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening wounds.About a block away, the suspect approached a 62-year-old man and pressed a knife against the left side of the man's neck, then ran away in an unknown direction. The man suffered scratches to his neck, but did not go to a hospital, Heims said.A detailed description of the suspect was not immediately available. 892

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A motorcyclist was killed early this evening in a fiery crash on Interstate 805 in Serra Mesa.The fatal accident occurred on the northbound side of the freeway near Kearny Villa Road shortly before 5:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.The wreck left the victim's two-wheeler in flames on the roadway and forced a closure of the two left-hand northbound lanes of the interstate in the area, the CHP reported. 450
