SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Dozens of San Diegans are calling on the City Council to take action after they say a decision to let people live in their cars is creating homeless camps in their neighborhoods. Sarah Bonesteel has lived in the Pacific Beach area for 20 years. “It’s ruining the neighborhoods,” Bonesteel. Lately, she says camps of people living in their vehicles are destroying the lifestyle for people who live in the area. “It can be 5 or 6 of them all together on a block. I pay a lot to live here by the beach, and it’s ruining the environment.”It’s been about a month since San Diego’s City Council voted to repeal a decades-old ordinance that prohibited people from living in vehicles on city streets. Now, it’s legal again and some residents aren’t happy about it. “There’s pedophiles close to the schools, we can’t take kids to the library anymore. A lot of people drink and do drugs in their vehicles,” Bonesteel continued. RELATED: City of San Diego allows homeless to live in vehiclesAnd it’s not just the beach towns. Off the 94 near Webster, RVs and giant vans line the street, one even equipped with a satellite dish. Frustrated San Diegans like Bonesteel have even created a coalition to try to fight the change. Residents have been sharing photos and stories, like one woman who says her kids witnessed people beating each other outside a van. Another man says teachers at a local preschool are extremely concerned. In Ocean Beach, one woman captured a photo of a dilapidated school bus. “We’re trying to compile information, pictures of it all, so that we have it documented.”Some people living in their RVs told 10News off camera that they don’t have any other options. But how far has the repeal gone? 10News found people on Airbnb trying to rent out vans with “an ocean view.”“We had joked about them maybe doing that, and then there’s been ads and it’s like holy crap, they’re actually going to rent it out,” Bonesteel said. “This is going too far.”Bonesteel has a message for San Diego’s City Council. “Please think about what you’ve done.”10News tried to reach out to councilmembers about the issue, but haven’t heard back. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Despite a recent surge in attendance and stock prices, SeaWorld Entertainment Tuesday announced 125 job cuts company-wide.Interim CEO John Reilly said in the company’s earnings report Monday that the company identified million of “additional cost reductions.”A spokesperson for the company said the restructuring affects all the company’s theme parks as well as corporate offices, located in Orlando.RELATED: SeaWorld To Eliminate 350 Jobs, Including 80 In San DiegoOther than SeaWorld parks, the company also owns Sesame Place and Bush Gardens parks. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Fire crews responded to a small brush fire that broke out Wednesday afternoon in a highly residential area.According to firefighters, the blaze broke out on the 2500 block of Sumac Drive near Azalea Hollywood Park.Crews were quickly able to stop the forward rate of spread before flames spread to nearby homes.In total, the fire burned three fourths of an acre.  395

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Homeowners in Chula Vista's Eastlake III Community Association are fighting back against proposed parking updates for the HOA. If passed neighbors would be required to park their cars in the garage before parking in their driveway or on the street.The Board of Directors distributed proposed updates to the Community Association Handbook for a homeowner review and comment; and will vote on Tuesday, August 20.Among the proposed changes:Street parking is permitted only after all garage spaces, and driveway spaces, are utilized to its maximum designed capacityThe Association's management company is permitted to perform a garage inspection of a residence to ensure compliance with the Association's governing documentsHomeowner Jose Esquer believes an inspection would be an invasion of people's property."They seem to want the right to inspect your garage, and that's private property. What I have in my garage shouldn't be anybody's business, but whoever is inside my house. I have a problem with them trying to police what we do once inside our house," said Esquer. Becky Niemiec already parks her car in the garage but still believes the changes would be an overstep. "We don't have attics, we don't have basements, we have no storage, people should be able to use their garage however they want to," said Niemiec.Niemiec says the issue has drawn a lot of debate on Nextdoor. She says while some argue the changes could help beautify the neighborhood, she believes that group is in the minority.
