(KGTV) - Poway Unified School District is launching a pilot program in an attempt to take an innovative approach to special education, bringing children with learning disabilties together with the general education population."We know, as students of history, separate has never been equal," Associate Superintendent Greg Mizel said in an interview with 10News. "So the more that we mix up our kids, the better for all children."The program is being tried in three schools: Monterey Ridge Elementary in 4S Ranch, Twin Peaks Middle in Poway, and Mt. Carmel in Rancho Pe?asquitos. All students who are in the special education program will have regular classes with students from the general education population. Those classes will have two teachers, one from special ed and one from general ed. (KGTV) - A couple was on their way to the hospital to give birth, but their baby decided to make his grand entrance before they could get there.Bill Sudzuk's wife, Holly Hill, was not expected to give birth to their third child until next week. But early Thursday morning, she began having contractions.As they drove to the hospital at around 2:30 a.m., Sudzuk realized that the baby was not going to wait as they were still a few minutes away from the delivery room."Baby wanted to come out, nothing we could do about it," Sudzuk said.Because of the contractions, the couple pulled over in the parking lot of a Chevron gas station on Scripps Poway Parkway and Pomerado Road, and Sudzuk called 911 for assistance.While on the phone, paramedics guided Sudzuk through the process of helping deliver the baby. Seconds later, Sudzuk caught Simon with his free hand. "Three minutes later, we have a little one!" Hill said.Next thing he knew, Sudzuk was handling the umbilical cord with a bungee."I went and found a string, and I ended up cutting a bungee off my backpack and cutting and tying it off," Sudzuk said. Paramedics arrived to check on mom and baby before putting them in an ambulance and taking them to the hospital.Doctors said they are lucky they had no complications. (KGTV) -- Two brothers have been arrested in a string of North County burglaries that occurred earlier this year, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday.On June 11, Daron Davon Turner, 38, and his half-brother, Daren Tyrone Turner, 25, were arrested in Poway for the burglaries.Authorities say an investigation connected the brothers to multiple residential burglaries. After searching several locations in Los Angeles County, authorities found several stolen guns related to the case.Daron is currently facing 10 felony counts of burglary while Daren faces five felony counts of burglary. Turner’s mother, girlfriend and uncle also have possible connections to the case.Their cases have been submitted to the District Attorney’s office, authorities say. POWAY, Calif., (KGTV)-- Fire crews battled a house fire in Poway Sunday afternoon after neighbors heard hissing sounds and an explosion. Poway and San Diego Fire departments responded to the 13,000 block of Silver Saddle Lane after getting a 9-1-1 call at around 1:15 pm. When crews arrived, they found the side of the home on fire. "The fire was just on the garage and the exterior of the garage. It appears it did not make it into the house," Poway Fire Battalion Chief Ray Fried said. Batt. Chief Fried said the methane levels were too high, above 0 ppm, which meant his fire crews needed to stand down until SDG&E cleared the gas leak. "We're not going inside at this time, because the gas readings are fairly high inside the house," Batt. Chief Fried said. No one was inside the home at the time of the explosion. President Donald Trump said Thursday he has authorized American troops on the US-Mexico border to "use lethal force" if necessary against an approaching group of migrants while also threatening to close "the whole border."Trump, who was speaking with military members and reporters at Mar-a-Lago, also said there "certainly could" be a government shutdown over border wall funding in December."If they have to, they're going to use lethal force.
