SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Dozens of voters were left off the roster at a San Diego County polling place on Election Day, leading to frustration and delays. The problem was reported Tuesday morning at Pacific Trails Middle School at 5975 Village Center Loop Rd in Carmel Valley.Poll workers received an incomplete roster which omitted 46 names, Registrar of Voters Michael Vu confirmed. The list was missing two and a half pages.YOUR VOICE YOUR VOTE: 10News?Election CoverageVoters waited for voting officials to reprint another roster and deliver it to the polling place.Officials tried to ease the long line by calling the Registrar of Voters and getting approval for each person over the phone, a voter told 10News.Voters also had the option of voting provisionally, but many of them declined, telling 10News they wanted their votes to count. Provisional voting requires extra processing time to verify residences and identities. The San Diego Superior Court announced Monday it would have a judicial officer on hand to deal with any possible election-related issues, including registration, denial of registration of voters, certification or denial of certification of candidates or the certification or denial of certification of ballot measures.RELATED: Judicial officer on hand for Election DayVoters were encouraged to contact the Registrar of Voters at 858-565-5800 with any concerns. 1411

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Eldahmy Wellness Pharmacy just received a shipment of test strip kits that can detect signs of COVID-19 in the blood."I usually compare it to the blood glucose machine," said Ahmed Eldahmy, an advanced practice pharmacist who owns Eldahmy Wellness Pharmacy's two locations in La Jolla and Barrio Logan. "Hopefully in the future this point-of-care testing will be available in every doctor's office, clinic, pharmacy."The kits are allowed by the FDA for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) as of March 31, 2020. Although he could not yet tell us the name of the company creating the kits, Eldahmy showed them to us and explained how they work to detect if signs of COVID-19 are present in the blood.RELATED: San Diego company gets FDA approval for 30-minute COVID-19 test"These are basically the antibodies that our test is trying to detect," Eldahmy explained while holding the test during a Skype interview. "We take a drop of blood and we put it in this spot at the bottom of the test. This is how we can figure out if the blood sample has the antibody component or not."He said it only takes moments to receive results."You leave it for about 5 to 10 minutes and it will tell you if it's positive or negative," he explained. "There’s only a one or two percent chance that it might not be accurate."RELATED: FDA warns of fake coronavirus home test kitsPeople must fill out a pre-screening questionnaire before receiving the test which asks if they've recently traveled to an area with known spread of COVID-19, if they've come in close contact with someone who tested positive in the last 14 days, if they have a fever greater than 100.4 or lower respiratory illnesses like cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, and if they work as a first responder or healthcare worker. The answers will determine if one qualifies for the test."We can send it to a patient in their homes they can do it or we can do it here in our location," said Eldahmy. "We’d rather do it at our location in order to give patients a little bit of guidance or direction. We don’t want people to panic or freak out."RELATED: Company working to get FDA approval for fast COVID-19 testIf someone chooses to do the testing in person, it will be done following social distancing guidelines outside of Eldahmy's two pharmacies."Within the 10-15 minutes we will bring them the results, bring them the paperwork and what they need to do moving forward," he said.If results come back positive, Eldahmy will refer the patient to have further testing done.RELATED: FDA approves San Diego company's coronavirus test kit"Basically body fluid or a nasal swab that we have to send to a lab," he said. "If they tested negative but still have symptoms they still need to self quarantine for 14 days in order for us to assess and we will redo the test after 14 days."Right now he only has a little under 100 tests, but is hoping to receive more soon.Because Eldahmy understands that many people may be struggling during this time, there will be no financial gain for his pharmacies.RELATED: Encinitas doctor helping patients test for coronavirus via telemedicine"Its not the time to make a profit off of it," he explained while saying he will either give the test for free or for the price he paid depending on each person's financial situation. "We just want to do something for our community, make sure that those who are actually on the fence, or they have symptoms, or they don't have access to the hospital, then we'll be able to help them out." Testing sites will be set up at both pharmacies."We’ll do one day in Barrio Logan and the next day in La Jolla and we will alternate," he said. "We can answer questions, we can give guidance and let hospitals deal with 100 percent positive cases that need the help."The tests will be given on a first come, first serve basis by appointment only starting Wednesday. To make an appointment call 619-331-1111. After confirming an appointment, you will be advised to go to one of the following locations: 1985 National Ave #1103San Diego, CA 92113 7509 Draper Ave Suite ALa Jolla, CA 92037To learn more about Eldahmy Wellness Pharmacy click here. 4184

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Governor Gavin Newsom's announcement Friday on the fall school year left many parents unsure what to expect.Schools have a list of guidelines they must comply with to open in person classes. The most difficult guideline, potentially, is to stay off the state's watch list for 14 consecutive days. This leaves parents in limbo.Tancy Campbell has been juggling a 9-year-old, 5-year-old with special needs, and an Esty shop while her husband is deployed with the Navy. "I'm overwhelmed right now," she said.RELATED: Newsom: Counties on state watch list won't start fall school year in personWhen it comes to the school year she has mixed feelings. She is less nervous about her 9-year-old who understands social distancing and mask etiquette, but her 5-year-old son hasn't reached that level yet."I'm worried about him going but I'm worried about him staying as well so it's like a double-edged sword," Campbell said. She said he has autism and is regressing without social interaction, but if he were to go to school right now she's worried he could catch coronavirus. These stresses piling up over the past four months.Licensed Psychologist Dr. Michelle Carcel said she's heard from a lot of exhausted parents and has this advice, "all of us need to take a step back and realize this is an imperfect situation and mistakes will be made and that's okay."She said it's important to create a routine to set barriers with the kids. "Also putting signs in different places where there's play area time and where there's school time. So that way you're making a division with work and play," Carcel added.Post a schedule somewhere that everyone can read, so the kids know when parents are busy and when they can have their attention. She suggests dividing and conquering if possible. Enlist help from your partner, or family members to divvy up the childcare responsibilities. She also said if you aren't happy about the decisions being made, let your representatives know. "You're not helpless, you're not alone, make sure you advocate for you and your family," Carcel said. Most importantly, don't forget to take care of yourself."I would just like to tell all the mommas and the daddies to stay strong if they're at home with their kids, it's a lot," Campbell said.A lot to handle, but a labor of love. 2320

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - HazMat teams responded to a fire station in North Park after a suspicious package was found outside the station, according to a San Diego Fire-Rescue official.Fire crews found the package by Station 14's front door around 3:20 p.m. Sunday when they returned from a call.Fire officials told 10News the package was a taped-up cardboard box with writing on it that made it appear dangerous. Some of the words were misspelled. The hazmat and bomb personnel set up a perimeter around the station, blocking off 32nd Street and Lincoln Avenue by about a block in each direction. The bomb squad x-rayed the package, determined that it was not dangerous, and reopened the street around 5:45 p.m.The package was filled with aluminum flux and trash, according to a tweet from San Diego Fire-Rescue.At about 3p on Sunday someone left this box at SDFD North Park station on 32nd St. The bomb team was called to ID the contents - aluminum flux and some trash. Thx to @SanDiegoPD for assistance. Street is open and residents will be back home shortly. #teamwork pic.twitter.com/xmclaDEzJ3— SDFD (@SDFD) December 31, 2018 1131

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Each year around this time, we marvel as gray whales make their way from Alaska down to Baja, Mexico, to give birth. However, this year's migration started late. "This year, with the migration being so late, a lot of the moms aren't actually making it to the lagoon before they give birth. So we're seeing a lot of these pregnant females giving birth on the migration this year," said Captain Domenic Biagini, founder of Gone Whale Watching San Diego. While the migration is late, Biagini says the whales look much healthier than last year, when many died. "Likely these whales spent a little longer feeding this year to make up for what they didn't get last year, and with less sea ice than normal, they're able to actually go further north looking for food, which then also makes the migration longer," said Captain Dom. Biagini says the calves aren't strong enough to dive, so he's already seen close calls with private boaters speeding by. "The problem is a lot of these grays, especially the moms with babies, are intentionally trying to keep a low profile and people aren't realizing that they're there as they're flying through thee areas. So it's really crucial to be conscious of your speed and surroundings during gray whale season," said Biagini. He says while the newborns are more vulnerable, the moms do a good job keeping a low-profile.They should arrive at their destination in a week or two. 1433
