YANGON, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping arrived here on Saturday to start a visit to Myanmar, the third leg of his four-nation Asian tour.     In a written statement, Xi said China and Myanmar were good neighbors, and the long-term friendship, fostered by the leaders of the two countries, had been upgraded since the two countries forged diplomatic ties. BEIJING, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- China should enhance supervision and management of the country's insurance investment, said Li Kemu, vice chairman of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC),on Sunday.     "With insurance funds were extended into disparate fields, other than bank deposit, demand for a better supervision and risk control enhanced, said Li at the International Finance Forum held in Beijing.     By the end of September, 3.4 trillion yuan (497.8 billion U.S. dollars) of insurance funds were invested in bonds, mutual funds, and stocks markets. Bonds investment alone accounted for 50.6 percent of the total.     Jiang Dingzhi, China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) Vice Chairman also highlighted the importance of establishing a "all-coverage" financial supervision system.     He suggested the country broaden the financial supervision and management system, which would put the mutual funds, hedge funds, and credit risks appraisal agencies under control.     The new system requires financial institutions to share information, and also cooperate to fill the supervision blanks between different financial markets, he said.

BEIJING, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- China hopes the upcoming China-EU summit will promote strategic mutual trust, said Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Zhijun on Tuesday.     Zhang said, the summit to be held on Nov. 30 in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing is the highest level of dialogue mechanism between the two sides, and it has a unique and leading role in the development of China-EU relations.     At the invitation of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, European Commission President Jos Manuel Barroso, Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, whose country currently holds the rotating EU presidency, and EU High Representative Javier Solana will attend the summit. Both sides will exchange views on bilateral relations, global financial crisis and climate change.     Zhang said China hopes the summit will actively enhance strategic mutual trust and both sides will be more determined to support each other's choice of path of development.     China also hopes the two sides will make a general blueprint for the dialogue and cooperation in various fields and show the world their cooperation on global issues including trade protectionism and climate change, Zhang added.     China and EU have common or similar views on major international issues such as upholding multilateralism and promoting world peace and stability. They enjoy a sound basis of cooperation on promoting reform of international financial system and coping with climate change, Zhang said.     According to the Foreign Ministry, Chinese and EU leaders will attend the signing ceremonies of a series of agreements on science and technology, economic and trade, environment protection and industry, and hold a press conference after the summit.     The upcoming 12th China-EU summit is the second of its kind in 2009 as the first one was held in May, and it is also the third time for the leaders to meet in 2009 since Wen visited Europe at the beginning of this year.

BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States are committed to working together and with other countries for a successful outcome at Copenhagen summit next month, said a joint statement issued here Tuesday after talks between Chinese President Hu Jintao and his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama.     The two sides have held a constructive and productive dialogue on the issue and maintained that international cooperation is indispensible in dealing with climate change, which poses one of the greatest challenge of the time, the statement said.     Both sides concede that transition to a low-carbon economy is an opportunity to promote continued economic growth and sustainable development in all countries.     Regarding the upcoming Copenhagen summit, the two countries expressed their willingness to strive for an agreed outcome based on the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities.     "The two sides, consistent with their national circumstances, resolve to take significant mitigation actions and recognized the important role that their countries play in promoting a sustainable outcome that will strengthen the world's ability to combat climate change," said the statement.     The two countries also agreed that the outcome should include the emission reduction targets of developed countries and nationally appropriate mitigation actions of developing countries, adding that it should also substantially scale up financial assistance to developing countries, promote technology development, dissemination and transfer, and pay particular attention to the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable countries to adapt to climate change.
