SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- All 289 playgrounds in the city of San Diego will reopen to the public on Saturday, Mayor Kevin Faulconer said Friday.Earlier this week, California health officials issued guidelines that allowed for the safe reopening of outdoor playgrounds in parks, campgrounds and other publicly accessible locations.The county reopened 100 of its playgrounds on Wednesday; the city of Carlsbad reopened its parks on Friday.In a statement, Faulconer said, “We already encourage families and children to recreate outdoors at beaches and parks while taking safety precautions, so there’s no reason why we can’t reopen playgrounds the same safe and responsible way. Along with other local leaders, we urged the Governor to deliver the proper guidance to make this a reality for our parents and children, and now that we can reopen we’ll do it responsibly with safety front and center.”Under the state’s guidelines, playground visitors must abide by these requirements:1. Face masks over the mouth and nose are required for everyone 2 years of age or older with caregiver supervision at all times to ensure face mask use.2. Do not use the playground when different households are unable to maintain a physical distance of 6 feet or when the capacity limit has been reached.3. Caregivers must monitor to keep adults and children from different households at least 6 feet apart.4. Consider coming on different times or days to avoid wait times and potential crowded times.5. No eating or drinking in playground, to ensure face masks are worn at all times.6. Wash or sanitize hands before and after using the playground.7. Elderly and persons with underlying medical conditions should avoid playground when others are present.8. Limit visit to 30 min per day when others are present. 1791

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego Police officer and another person were struck by a vehicle along a major Midway District roadway Thursday morning.The officer was responding to a vandalism call at about 4:30 a.m. in the 2900 block of Midway Drive at Rosecrans Street, according to police.The officer was outside of his patrol vehicle and working to detain a suspect when both were struck by a passing SUV. Witnesses say the officer had the suspect pinned down when they were hit."The suspect ran from the officers. While taking the suspect into custody in the street, both were stuck by an oncoming vehicle," SDPD said via a Tweet.The officer is in serious but stable condition. The unidentified officer was spotted on a gurney and being lifted into an ambulance while giving the thumbs up sign. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A thief struck an ugly chord with residents in a Del Cerro neighborhood, after zeroing in on a porch and warming up his pipes.    Just off College Avenue, Katherine - who asked us not to reveal her full name - says the first feeling was confusion when she and her husband returned home from Julian on Saturday night.  On their porch, the couple says they found an opened letter addressed to a man in El Cajon. When they looked at the surveillance video, they saw him:  a casually dressed man pulls up in a pickup truck.            "He is holding the letter so he has a plan, a story if anybody stops him," said Katherine.On the video, the man heads right for the package at the front door and swipes it.  He throws the package in the truck, tosses the letter and as gets back into the truck, he appears to belt out a note.  As he backs out of the driveway, he keeps on singing."The singing clearly shows he's completely comfortable, really cocky...just going to his next gig.  I think it's his weekend job," said Katherine.Katherine can't help but smile about the likely sour note he experienced once he looked inside and found - a dog brush and mug.  Now she's hoping the video will lead to an arrest."He's clearly done this before.  No doubt he's out doing this again," said Katherine. 1414

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A six-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital after accidentally shooting himself Tuesday night, according to the San Diego Police Department.The incident happened around 8 p.m. in the 4300 block of 52nd St. in the Colina Del Sol neighborhood near City Heights, a few blocks north of Fay Elementary School.San Diego police say the child was playing with the gun when he shot himself in the chest.City News Service, citing information from SDPD Officer John Buttle, reported the boy was in his grandmother's room when he discovered a .22-caliber handgun underneath a mattress.Police say the bullet went through the boy's chest, and the child was conscious and breathing when officers arrived. The boy was taken to Rady Children's Hospital with unknown injuries. His condition is unknown at this time. 827

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A second person has died from the flu in San Diego County so far this season, according to the County Health and Human Services Agency.The agency said the 100-year-old woman who died on October 19 had underlying medical conditions.“Influenza can lead to serious complications and even death, especially among the elderly,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer.A total of 316 cases of the flu have been reported so far this season in San Diego County.
