(CNN) -- A US Navy reconnaissance aircraft flying in international airspace over the Black Sea was intercepted by a Russian fighter jet Monday in an unsafe and unprofessional manner, according to three US defense officials and a statement from the Navy.During an encounter that lasted a total of 25 minutes, the Russian SU-27 jet passed directly in front of the US EP-3 aircraft at a high speed, the officials said. The US crew reported turbulence following that initial interaction in which the direct pass occurred.The SU-27 then made a second pass of the US plane and applied its afterburner while conducting a banking maneuver, which is believed to have caused a vibration that was experienced by the American crew."This interaction was determined to be unsafe due to the SU-27 conducting a high speed pass directly in front of the mission aircraft, which put our pilots and crew at risk. The intercepting SU-27 made an additional pass, closing with the EP-3 and applying its afterburner while conducting a banking turn away. The crew of the EP-3 reported turbulence following the first interaction, and vibrations from the second," according to a statement from the US Navy.Officials so far, have not been able to estimate how close the Russian aircraft came to the US plane, but described the flight behavior of the Russians as the key factor in making the determination the encounter was unsafe.US officials were not initially aware of whether the Russian aircraft was armed.The Navy EP-3 was operating out of Souda Bay, Greece, according to Pentagon spokesman Eric Pahon.The Navy plane had its transponder on for the duration of the mission but there was no communication established or attempted between the Russian and US aircraft, Pahon said.A Twitter account for the Russian embassy in the US posted a brief statement about the encounter on Monday saying the fighter jet "followed all necessary safety procedures.""The Su-27 jet's crew reported identifying the #US EP-3 Aries spy plane and accompanied it, preventing a violation of Russian airspace and followed all necessary safety procedures," the tweet said.The last reported unsafe intercept of a US Navy aircraft by a Russian jet occurred in January when a Russian Su-27 jet flew within five feet of a US Navy EP-3, forcing the Navy plane to fly through its jet wash.The US Navy deemed that intercept unsafe and unprofessional.Following that incident, the US State Department issued a statement accusing the Russians of "flagrantly violating existing agreements and international law."In May, a Russian Su-27 fighter jet performed an "unprofessional" intercept of a US Navy P-8 surveillance plane while it was flying in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.The Russian jet came within about 20 feet of the US aircraft, one official said, adding that the encounter lasted about nine minutes.That intercept was described by officials as safe but unprofessional, though a US Navy official told CNN that the Navy does not officially classify aerial encounters that way. "We were investigating drug sales on the street," said Retired Detroit Deputy Police Chief James Younger whose partner was shot in 1972 by a man who was never arrested for the crime. The shooting left Detroit Police Officer Donald Kimbrough paralyzed from the waist down and he died December 7, 2017, from medical complications that resulted from the decades old shooting. "With the knowledge that he was shot and never fully recovered, the manner is homicide," said Dr. Bernardino Pacris from the Oakland County Medical Examiner's Officer who conducted an autopsy on Kimbrough and recovered an oxidized, deformed bullet from Kimbrough's back. Younger said doctors could not remove the bullet without killing Kimbrough because of where it was located. Sergeant Todd Eby of Detroit's Homicide Task Force has been assigned to solving Officer Kimbrough's murder. It happened August 25, 1972, in an alley near a methadone clinic that was located at John R and Belmont.Kimbrough, Younger and another officer, Donald Hughes, were investigating drug activity in the area when they heard gunshots. Kimbrough and Hughes took off running to the area where witnesses said men were shooting while Younger began to navigate their vehicle around traffic to get to the location. Kimbrough and Hughes spotted one man holding a long gun and ordered him to place the weapon on the ground. Moments later, another man who was sitting in the driver's seat of a green Lincoln Continental that was parked nearby, rolled his window down and opened fire on Kimbrough and Hughes. The two officers returned fire, but Kimbrough had been shot. The man who had the long gun picked it back up off the ground and raced to hop into the green Lincoln Continental. Both men escaped.The vehicle they fled in is described as a green 1968 Lincoln Continental with a black vinyl top. It's unclear if the car was a two-door or four-door. A partial license plate may be GA- 2--.The shooter was described as a white man 25 - 30-years-old with shoulder-length black hair, a thick black mustache and long bushy sideburns. Police did recover the shooter's .32 caliber Colt semi-automatic pocket pistol. A man found it in his yard.  "Don was a good policeman. A good person and very energetic person. We spent a lot of time together not only on duty, but also off duty," said Younger who retired as a Detroit Police Chief and now teaches Criminal Justice at Wayne County Community College. If he's alive, Kimbrough's shooter could be in his seventies. But Younger, Eby, and family and friends of Donald Kimbrough believe it's not too late for someone to help solve the case by identifying a suspect. "Where's man's humanity towards man," said Younger. Authorities said Monday that the employees set out to terrify the Massachusetts couple that ran the newsletter with threatening messages and deliveries because executives were upset about the newsletter's coverage of the company. With more Americans working from home, it appears many companies could stick with telework following the spread of the coronavirus.According to a survey of 150 human resources representatives by The Conference Board, 77% expect a shift toward teleworking one year after the coronavirus spread subsides. Those survey expect more workers to spend at least three days a week from home. While many companies might expand telework, some are reporting a decrease in productivity amid the spread of coronavirus. 32% of professional and office work had a decrease in productivity. That number increased to 44% for companies geared toward industry and manual services. But 21% of professional services and 27% industry and manual services companies saw an increase in productivity. But much of that appears not to be connected to telework, and more a result of decreased staffing and revenue."A shift toward more remote working will have major implications for HR departments," said Robin Erickson, PhD, a report co-author and Principal Researcher at The Conference Board.
