Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen issued an alert today, stating anyone who used their credit card at a Cheddar's restaurant between November and January may have had their information stolen.Since 2017, at least 16 different companies were hacked. Every 60 seconds, nearly 2,000 people become a victim to cyber crime. Whether it's getting phished or getting hit with malware, more than million is stolen on average in that minute, according to new information released by cyber security firm RiskIQ.There are precautions you can take to protect yourself. For example, on social media, you could be giving away personal information without even knowing it.Geotags, your birthday information and childhood photos could give away answers to private security questions you’re asked when you forget a password. Also, don’t ignore your app updates. Updating apps and software could actually make your device more secure, because updates could potentially fix security flaws.Lastly, if you receive a call from a telemarketer, be sure to not give any personal information, no matter how small, unless you are 100 percent sure who you’re speaking with. 1150
CHICAGO (AP) — President-elect Joe Biden is considering former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to serve as his transportation secretary.Biden's pick to lead the Transportation Department is not believed to be imminent, and Emanuel is among multiple candidates in the running for the Cabinet position. That's according to people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the private deliberations.During his 8-year tenure as mayor, Emanuel is credited with fixing Chicago’s ragged public transportation system, overhauling O'Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport, and making the city a bicycle-friendly city, the Associated Press reported.Biden and Emanuel are no strangers to each other. Before becoming mayor of Chicago, Emanuel served as former President Barack Obama's first White House chief of staff.Emanuel is a substantial and somewhat divisive figure in Democratic Party politics. Some party progressives are critical of Emanuel's handling of the 2018 police shooting death of Black teenager Laquan McDonald by a white officer when Emanuel was mayor. 1116

The agent’s vehicle hit a man who was lying in the road. The agent immediately rendered aid to the man until emergency medical services arrived. The agency says the man was first taken to a nearby hospital and then airlifted to a trauma center in Palm Springs, where he died. 642
CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — A gunman opened fire on two New Jersey police officers while they were sitting in their vehicle at a red light Tuesday night, wounding them in what authorities are calling an ambush attack. At least one suspect opened fire on the plainclothes detectives in Camden, which is located just across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, said Camden County Police Chief J. Scott Thomson."The information we have thus far is that they were essentially ambushed," Thomson told reporters at a late night news conference. "A male walked up and began opening fire. We have anywhere between 10 and 25 rounds that were fired at the officers."One of the detectives was able to return fire, Thomson said, but it was not immediately clear if anyone else was shot. Thomson said his department was in communication with hospitals in the region. The detectives were taken to an area hospital and are expected to survive."At this point in time our officers have non-life-threatening injuries but not for the grace of God quite frankly," Thomson said. "The amount of rounds that were fired at close range and particularly through the windshield."Police continue to search for the suspect or suspects involved in the "unprovoked" attack."Maybe they did know they were police officers and that's the reason why they did it. Maybe they thought they were somebody else. We'll find that out as the investigation unfolds," Thomson said. The shooting occurred on National Night Out, an event designed to bring local police and the communities they serve together. 1560
Bulgarian authorities are investigating the rape and murder of an investigative reporter in the northern city of Ruse, the third journalist to have been killed in the EU this year. The body of 30-year-old Viktoria Marinova was found on Saturday near a pedestrian alley in an area with heavy vegetation, Bulgarian state media reported.Preliminary investigations showed the cause of death was blows to the head and suffocation.Bulgarian Interior Minister Mladen Mladenov described the murder as "exceptionally brutal" and said Marinova was raped before she was killed, according to state media. He said the country's top murder investigators had been sent to Ruse to work on the case. It's not clear if Marinova's murder was related to her journalistic work. Authorities are working to identify witnesses and potential motives for her murder.Bulgarian media reports said that over the last year Marinova had reported on an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption involving European Union funds for the broadcaster TVN. She also worked on a program focusing on social issues and was involved with charity work. 1119
