SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego company is looking to capitalize on a new law that legalizes the growing of hemp in the United States. Medical Marijuana Inc., based in Sorrento Valley, already has a line of CBD products but has to import the raw hemp from outside the United States. That will soon change. On Tuesday, President Donald Trump signed the 2018 Farm Bill. Inside the bi-partisan, 7 billion bill was a revision to the federal laws on hemp, which had largely outlawed commercial production since the 1930s. The bill also removed hemp from being classified as a schedule 1 drug, the DEA category for substances with “no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse.” “We really think this is going to be a tremendous growth market over the next three to five years,” said Stuart Titus, president and CEO of Medical Marijuana Inc. Founded in 2009, the company has several lines of CBD-based products for both humans and animals. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A missing former Navy SEAL reported missing earlier this month has been found, according to police.San Diego Police said Johnathan Steven Surmont, 45, was located in Los Angeles during the time he was reported missing.RELATED: San Diego Police searching for missing Navy SEAL veteran"A citizen" called SDPD to tell them Surmont was in Los Angeles, at which point the department's Missing Persons Unit confirmed the information."Although Surmont’s current whereabouts are not known to SDPD, he is no longer considered at-risk or a missing person," the department said in a release.Surmont was reported missing after he was last seen in August, telling his wife he was in a "rough place" in Los Angeles, according to a missing person bulletin from the SDPD. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man is searching for the good Samaritan who pulled him from a rip current in La Jolla this week.Patrick Fitzpatrick was swimming at Windansea Beach Tuesday."It took a snap second before I was in control to completely out of control," Fitzpatrick recalled, after becoming caught in a rip current. "There was no way on Earth that I was going to live from this. I was in a panic. I couldn't use my arms and legs now."Someone on shore, only known as "Dustin," noticed Fitzpatrick struggling and swam out to help him."He's a guardian angel. He owe him my life, he saved my life," Fitzpatrick says.Dustin swam out and kept Fitzpatrick calm before more help could arrive and get him to shore.Fitzpatrick is hoping to reunite with his mystery rescuer to say thank you."The humanity that comes from an act of kindness like this, from a perfect stranger," Fitzpatrick said. 892

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A pursuit sparked an officer-involved shooting in Imperial Beach late Saturday night. According to police, officers tried to pull over a Ford F-150 that was reported stolen around 10:30 p.m. Saturday on the 1900 block of Dairy Mart Road. Police say the driver didn’t stop, instead driving into a cul-de-sac, making a u-turn and driving toward officers. “Believing his partner was going to be run over, one officer fired his service weapon to defend the other officer,” police said in a news release. At some point during the pursuit, the suspect threw a handgun out of the truck. RELATED: One shot, killed at Linda Vista recreation centerThe suspect eventually stopped on the 1200 block of Holly Avenue in Imperial Beach and ran away from the scene with a female passenger. The woman has since been located while police continue to search for the suspect. Homicide detectives have been called to investigate due to an officer firing his weapon, police say. It’s unclear whether or not the suspect was hit. Police say the officer who fired at the suspect is a three-year veteran of the department. No officers were injured. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A jury Tuesday found a man guilty of beating and raping two women on consecutive days in 2016. Jeremiah Ira Williams, 26, was found guilty on multiple charges Tuesday, including forcible rape and false imprisonment. Williams now faces 100 years to life in prison. His sentencing will be on May 30. A prosecutor Monday urged the jury to convict Williams, who is accused of choking and raping two women in different parts of San Diego on consecutive days in 2016.A defense attorney argued that police infused suspicions from the second case into the initial attack and mishandled evidence.Williams is charged with 13 counts including forcible rape, false imprisonment, sodomy and making a criminal threat.Earlier in the trial, Williams was removed from the courtroom for being disruptive and was not present Tuesday as attorneys presented their final arguments.Deputy District Attorney Trisha Amador told jurors that Williams followed Jane Doe #1 from a parking structure to her University City apartment on August 13.With her keys in the door, she was knocked down, robbed at gunpoint and choked to a point where she thought she was going to die, the prosecutor said.After being taken inside the apartment, Williams beat and raped her, Amador argued. The next day, Williams beat and raped a woman working as a prostitute after meeting her in a motel in Grantville, Amador said.Jane Doe #2 was reportedly so terrified that she broke a window and jumped through it to get away.Deputy Public Defender Thomas Bahr told the jury that a detective had a feeling the two sexual assaults may be connected and jumped to conclusions in an attempt to solve the first attack.Bahr also told the jury that Jane Doe #2 lied throughout the investigation and said her story contained inconsistencies.Bahr said Jane Doe #1 was a “true victim,” yet she couldn’t assist police in making a composite sketch of her attacker. 1943
