The play “Columbinus” was based on the events that took place in the 1999 shooting in Columbine, Colorado.“I was sitting right over here to your right, giving final notes and instructions to my actors, literally on how to effectively portray people affected by a mass shooting, Elliott says.“We thought it was vital three days ago. We thought it was immediate three days ago. Now, it’s on our doorstep.”One of his cast members did, in fact, lose a best friend.“I've spent a month and half with these kids, trying to teach them what it could be like to experience an event like this, try to help them get into the minds of people, of a community affected by an event like this,” Elliott says. “I would never in a million years have wished for them to actually live it. It’s heartbreaking.”This weekend's opening performances have been canceled. The future of the production is unclear.However, Elliott and the cast unanimously agree that it should go on."It is exponentially more important to us all now," Elliott says.Whether the play will go on is up to the university. But if theatre's job is to hold a mirror up to nature, to society, Elliott believes the show must go on, especially now.“This show is why we do theatre,” Elliott says. “This show is why theatre exists.” 1724

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida — A Delta Airlines flight from Detroit, Michigan to West Palm Beach, Florida has landed safely after blowing a tire.Delta flight 1930 departed Detroit Metro Airport at 8:30 a.m. and landed at Palm Beach International Airport just after 11 a.m. Eastern.An airport spokesperson told WXYZ in Detroit that crews responded to a level two alert, which indicated a mechanical malfunction of some kind.Video shows the plane taxied safely to the gate where it was surrounded by emergency vehicles.No one was injured. Wildfires have killed one person and forced the evacuation of four towns in Oklahoma, authorities said.The state chief medical examiner's office reported a 61-year-old man died Thursday in Roger MIlls County as a result of injuries sustained in a fire that began southeast of Leedey, the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management said.A 54-year-old hunter reported missing in the large Dewey County fire was found alive, Oklahoma Forestry Services Fire Chief Scott Huff said.
