The four-night convention begins with a roll call on Monday evening from delegates who take turns stating their pick for the nominee. California Republican National Committeewoman and Delegate to Republican National Convention Harmeet Dhillon said they are expecting a unanimous vote for President Trump and VP Mike Pence.Then, top republicans and citizens will speak through the next few nights. President Trump is expected to speak Thursday evening, but the schedule also shows he will be in the program to some capacity every evening.This would typically be a time when hundreds from California attend, but with coronavirus restrictions, that’s not possible this year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- People around the world are rallying for Navy EOD Tech Chief Petty Officer Kenton Stacy, critically injured in Syria.Five months and nearly 20 surgeries later, he still has a long recovery ahead.Stacy was in Syria clearing a hospital of IEDs when the explosion happened. At the time doctors gave him a two percent chance of survival.Stacy's brave comrades helped pull him from the rubble and to safety. One of them, Staff Sergeant Justin Peck, was honored by President Trump during his State of the Union address.Stacy is paralyzed from the neck down and blind in his left eye. He suffered extensive damage to his lungs, vocal chords trachea. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More than 18,000 San Diegans got hired in May as employment began to recover from the depths of the coronavirus shutdown. The Employment Development Department reported Friday that from April to May, employers added 18,200 people to their payrolls. Still, the employment situation in San Diego County is dire. From May 2019 to May 2020, payroll employment is still down by 195,800 workers. "The positive thing is that the worst is behind us and we've seen month over month job growth so we're improving," said Alan Gin, an economist at the University of San Diego. "The negative spin is that we're improving but the situation is still bad."The hard-hit restaurant industry led the way with 9,100 new jobs, as coronavirus related restrictions began to lift, allowing in-house dining with reduced capacity.Eric Adler, who co-founded the Artisan Mexican restaurant Puesto, said this year has been particularly. But he says the chain is going to re-hire the upwards of 600 people it let go. On Friday, it held a job fair for its upcoming Mission Valley location, scheduled to open in July. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Owners of sportfishing and diving charters in San Diego expressed their grief and condolences Monday after learning of the deadly boat fire near Santa Cruz Island. John Conniff, the owner of Islander Charters, was at sea guiding a trip when he heard chatter over the radio. "It was in the middle of the night, and I could actually hear it from where I was sleeping, but we could only hear the Coast Guard side of things, at first I heard that there was a fire on a boat," said Conniff. "We couldn't hear the Conception side of the story, but I could hear Coast Guard responding to a serious mayday outside of Santa Barbara."It wasn't until Conniff returned to San Diego that he learned just how devastating the fire was. "My heart goes out to them… my first thought when I heard it on the radio was my own family and then of the families of the 25 people sleeping below decks on our boat," said Conniff. Coniff runs sportfishing and dive trips anywhere from one-and-a-half to five days. He says the whole industry is grieving. Patrick Douglas, with Horizon Charters, posted this message on their Facebook page. "Like many of you in the California dive community we woke up to the devastating news of the Truth Aquatics dive boat fire off Santa Cruz Island last night. Sending our deepest condolences and love out to the families impacted, this is a very sad day for the industry. #prayers"By phone, Douglas told 10News that dive boats in California operate at a higher level than any other state. He says they maintain the highest standards and an incident like this is an anomaly. In his 30 years of experience, Douglas has never seen an incident so severe.
