(KGTV) - Students in Poway are trading their notebooks and pencils for needles and thread, as they make teddy bears this holiday season."This is hands on," says 5th Grade teacher Kimberlee Rizzuti. "They're making something. Some of these kids have never held a needle and thread."The 5th Graders at Painted Rock Elementary School do every part of the bear-building by hand, from drawing and cutting patterns to stuffing the bears. Parents help with the sewing machines in class."It's pretty hard, but it's fun to do," says 5th Grader Deacon Tilley.It's a project the school has done for about 35 years. The classes make about 100 bears total, all of which get donated to Interfaith Services of Escondido."We've kind of gotten away from hand made things," says Rizzuti. POWAY (CNS) - A deputy received minor injuries Saturday when a passing car hit his patrol car, sheriff's officials said.At about 1:30 a.m., the deputy was sitting in his patrol car on the side of the road on Poway Road and Iola Way when a passing motorist hit his car and then hit a car the deputy had pulled over, according to Lt. Kevin Ralph of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.The motorist pulled over and admitted he had been drinking earlier, officials said. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI.The person in the other car that was struck was not injured. 577

President Donald Trump is set to hold an outdoor rally Saturday in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, according to the president’s campaign.The campaign rally at Portsmouth International Airport will come three weeks after an indoor rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the president’s first of the COVID-19 era, drew a smaller-than-expected crowd amid concerns of rising infections in the region.The Trump campaign’s announcement of the Portsmouth rally noted that “there will be ample access to hand sanitizer and all attendees will be provided a face mask that they are strongly encouraged to wear.” Many people at Trump’s rally in Tulsa skipped wearing masks, and relatively few masks were seen during his speech at South Dakota’s Mount Rushmore last Friday.Public health officials are cautioning against holding large gatherings as the virus continues to spread throughout much of the country, but they believe outdoor congregations are relatively less risky than indoor gatherings.
