Surveillance video captured the moment this week when a bolt of lightning made a direct hit on a home in Daytona Beach, Florida.Cindy Holt's surveillance camera recorded the moment the home's roof was hit by the lightning.She thought her boyfriend, pulling in at the same moment, had an accident."It was huge. It shook the house ... I thought he had actually hit the garage door," said Holt. "It was scary. I just thank God nobody was in the house at the time."Immediately after the strike, they noticed smoke coming from the roof and ran to the scene.A person spoke to the residents of the house to alert them about the lightning strike."You could see the smoke. You could see there was no fire, thank God," said Holt.Firefighters think the home's electrical system is fried.There were several scorch marks in the home's eave and around a light near the garage door.Though lightning struck just the one house, several other nearby residents lost phone and/or internet service."It's scary. The average Thanksgiving feast for a family of 10 is expected to cost less in 2020 despite a surge in meat prices. The America Farm Bureau Foundation says that the average feast for 10 will cost .90, which is .01 less than in 2019.While other types of meat are more expensive this year, according to USDA data, turkey prices have dropped. A 16-pound turkey is expected to cost .39, which is down 7% from a year ago. Conversely, meat prices in general have jumped more than 6% from October 2019 through October 2020.¡°The average cost of this year¡¯s Thanksgiving dinner is the lowest since 2010,¡± said AFBF Chief Economist Dr. John Newton. ¡°Pricing whole turkeys as ¡®loss leaders¡¯ to entice shoppers and move product is a strategy we¡¯re seeing retailers use that¡¯s increasingly common the closer we get to the holiday.¡±Whipped cream and sweet potatoes have also seen a modest decrease in cost over the last year.The data was compiled from 230 pricing surveys spread across all 50 states. 1001

The banana phone is back.A startup that licenses the Nokia phone brand has unveiled a new version of the 8110, a curved mobile phone that was first released in 1996 and featured in "The Matrix."The phone, which is offered in banana yellow and black, will sell for €79 (). It comes loaded with a new version of the game Snake, Finnish startup HMD said in a statement."This is a return to the glory years of Nokia," said Ian Fogg, senior analyst at IHS Markit. "But it also includes all the new technology."The 8110 comes with 4G, and a handful of apps including Google Maps, Facebook and Twitter. But it doesn't have a flashy operating system and users won't be able to download other popular apps.Fogg said that basic -- or "feature" -- phones are appealing because they are reliable, and can run for a long time on a single charge. The 8110 goes 25 days in standby mode, for example.Nokia used to be the world's largest maker of mobile phones, but it struggled to adapt to the era of smartphones and compete with the likes of Apple and Samsung.Microsoft purchased the company's handset business in 2013, but later unwound the deal. Nokia now focuses on making technology for telecommunications networks.HMD, which has licensed the Nokia brand since 2016, sold over 70 million handsets in 2017, according to IHS. Ten people have died after a Florida nursing home failed to evacuate its residents, who suffered for days in oppressive heat with no air conditioning after Hurricane Irma, according to the Hollywood Police Department.A 93-year-old man died on Tuesday, and a 94-year-old woman died on Wednesday -- adding to eight who were found dead last week at the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills, or who died after being evacuated to a hospital.The exact causes of death have not been reported, but a number of the 141 residents who were evacuated were treated for heat-related issues. An ongoing criminal investigation is underway.Nursing home residents sweltered in hazardous conditions after Hurricane Irma, which felled a tree that knocked out the transformer powering the air conditioning system. Many were moved into the hallways, next to fans and spot coolers. One video obtained by CNN shows a naked woman sitting in the hallway on what appears to be a hospital bed.Despite multiple calls between the nursing home and state authorities, at no time did the nursing home report that their patients were in danger or that they needed to be evacuated, according to a report on Tuesday by Florida Governor Rick Scott's office. The state advised managers "multiple times" to call 911 if such a situation arose."Something they failed to do," the 159-page report said."This facility is failing to take responsibility for the fact that they delayed calling 911 and made the decision not to evacuate their patients to one of the largest hospitals in Florida, which is directly across the street," Scott said in a statement.Last week, the nursing home expressed its sympathy for the families of the deceased and said it is "fully cooperating with all authorities and regulators to assess what went wrong." A moratorium was imposed on the facility that prevents it from admitting any patients."This healthcare facility failed to do their basic duty to protect life," Scott said.
