A 36-year-old Washington woman is claiming that a DNA test she took on Ancestry.com showed that her biological father was her parents' fertility doctor, the Washington Post reported. According to the Washington Post, Kelli Rowlette's DNA test claimed that she had a parent-child relationship with Gerald E. Mortimer, a fertility doctor in Idaho. Rowlette said she did not know her mother used artificial insemination. The doctor had diagnosed Rowlette's father with low sperm count and her mother with a tipped uterus. Mortimer recommended inseminating Rowlette's mother with sperm from both her husband and an anonymous sperm donor. According to the Washington Post, the couple asked for a donor who was at least 6-foot-tall, in college and had brown hair and blue eyes. Mortimer had told her parents that he used a match for the sperm donation. Mortimer did not meet Rowlette's parents standards for sperm donation. Mortimer was also listed as Rowlette's delivery doctor, and signed her birth certificate. A lawsuit has been filed in federal court against Mortimer for fraud and medical negligence.To read the Washington Post's full report, click here.  1273

(KGTV) -- The massive fire at the famous Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is hitting a San Diego school especially hard. Children at the Notre Dame Academy in Carmel Valley recently visited the sacred site during a school trip. Francesca Pinney, who is in 8th grade, said stepping inside such a holy place is something she will never forget."I remember it being an incredibly majestic and beautiful cathedral and it was incredibly inspiring to my Catholic faith being able to see this in person," said Francesca. The mood at the school on Monday afternoon was one of sadness and shock. "During Holy Week, the fact that the cathedral is burning down is just truly awful. It's so tragic," said Francesca, who visited Paris last year. Other classmates visited the famous attraction in just the last few weeks. Clare Deloux, a 7th grader, is one of them. She was stunned to learn about the massive fire that captured headlines around the world. "I was in shock. I didn't expect this to happen. It's very sad that this is amazing and that history was made even building that, " said Clare. The loss is also personal to their teacher. Marielle Hacher is from Paris. "It's a symbol of France and Catholic France for all the Catholic. It's very sad to see that it is burning, and hopefully, they gonna restore it," said Hacher.The students have already decided to use their next service project to raise money to help with the restoration; meanwhile, they will continue to pray for the people of France. (KGTV) - The nation responded Saturday after a mass shooting at an El Paso Walmart, with people asking how to help the victims. The El Paso Police Department tweeted “blood needed urgently” hours after the shooting, due to the multiple victims at El Paso hospitals. Vitalant in El Paso, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit blood service providers, sent 90 units of blood to one of the two hospitals. Several other hospitals requested additional blood, the group reported. A 15-year-old boy from Virginia earned a free cruise thanks to his Snapchat account handle.Darian Lipscomb of Prospect, Virginia, received a request from Carnival Cruise Lines to trade his Snapchat username (@CarnivalCruise) for a free trip, according to The Richmond Times-Dispatch.The company showed up at his home to convince him.“I answered the door, walked outside and saw my name on a big truck. I was really surprised,” he said.Lipscomb said he chose the username in 2012 (he was 9 years old at the time) to share snaps from his cruise experiences.“When I was 9 years old, I went on a cruise and got really excited and wanted to share it with my friends,” he said.Carnival sought out the name because it’s their brand name. The cruise line began an entire campaign to woo Lipscomb. They sent signs to Lipscomb's hometown to draw the teen's attention, including one on which Carnival Cruise’s new “chief fun officer” Shaquille O’Neal asked if anyone knew about Lipscomb, Fox News reported.The company showed up at Lipscomb’s home on Tuesday night and offered his family a free trip on their newest ship if he traded them his Snapchat name.He accepted the deal.
