BEIJING, June 17 (Xinhua) -- China has evacuated 1,299 nationals from Kyrgyzstan where ethnic clashes have left at least 187 people dead, the Foreign Ministry said Thursday.The last chartered flight of China Southern Airlines, with 148 Chinese nationals aboard, landed at an airport in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, at 1:30 a.m. (Beijing time) Thursday from Osh in southern Kyrgyzstan.The return of the ninth chartered flight means the end of the three-day massive evacuation, which started on Tuesday.Chinese nationals walk out of the air bridge after another chartered plane carrying 191 Chinese nationals stranded in the violence-hit Kyrgyz city of Osh lands in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, June 16, 2010."After three days of efforts, the vast majority of Chinese nationals in Osh have been flown home," said Sun Dali, deputy director of the Department of Consular Affairs with the Foreign Ministry."But we will continue to pay attention to and contact the Chinese nationals who are still staying in Kyrgyzstan, and offer immediate assistance to them in light of the changes of the local situation," he added.

BEIJING, July 1 (Xinhua) -- The State Council, or China's cabinet, has approved a plan which calls for combining four key administrative districts of Beijing, the national capital, into two larger ones.According to the plan proposed by the Beijing Municipal Government, the former Dongcheng, Xicheng, Chongwen and Xuanwu districts at the core of Beijing will merge to form the new Dongcheng and Xicheng districts.The new Dongcheng District, composed of the former Dongcheng and Chongwen districts, would have an area of 41.84 square km and a permanent population of 865,000; the new Xicheng District, including the former Xicheng and Xuanwu districts, would cover 50.7 square km, with about 1.25 million residents, as outlined in the plan.The adjustment of Beijing's administrative divisions was aimed at balancing the development of the city's core districts, said a spokesman with the municipal government.Among the four core districts of Beijing, the development of Chongwen and Xuanwu in the south was lagging behind that of Dongcheng and Xicheng in the north, said the spokesman.The action could optimize the district' social resources, reduce administrative costs and enhance Beijing's core area, he said.Further, the move was expected to speed the renovation of Beijing's Old City, which basically included the four districts, and make for better protection of the historical cultural sites in the Old City, he said.The municipal government has been striving to achieve the transformation of Beijing into a "world city", which has a global influence in terms of politics, economy and culture, by 2050.

GUANLING, Guizhou, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Rescuers Sunday gave up searching for more survivors, six days after a rain-triggered landslide buried 99 people in a southwest China village, citing mounting concerns to head off the outbreak of disease as well as the slim chance anyone could have survived after nearly one week.Only 42 bodies have been recovered at the landslide-hit Dazhai Village in Guanling County, Guizhou Province. But rescuers said it was unlikely to find any more survivors six days after the disaster amid the humid and hot weather.Police said they have begun to cremate the bodies after extracting DNA samples.Also, rescuers said life-detecting equipment found no traces of life while 20 excavators failed to uncover any body after turning some 400,000 cubic meters of mud at the site.On Sunday, police cordoned off the site and treated the area with disinfectants to prevent the outbreak of epidemics.Excavators that had been combing the ruins for six days were replaced by trucks carrying bleaching powders, disinfecting materials, and vaccines.Zhu Zhengming, deputy chief of the provincial health bureau, said the medical team faced increasing pressure as viruses and bacteria reproduced faster in the ongoing lingering heat.For the sake of the health and safety of rescue workers, they must leave the site, Zhu said, ordering quarantine personnel to disinfect the ruins every six hours for four times before it is completely sealed off for three months.Meanwhile, the government of Guanling announced on Sunday that families of each victim are entitled to cash compensation of 5,000 yuan and 500 kilograms of rice.8 Wang Mengzhou, the Party chief of Guanling, said a memorial service would be held near Dazhai Village on July 5 -- exactly one week after the landslide engulfed Dazhai and buried 99 local residents.Downpours drenched much of south China in late June, leaving 266 people dead and another 199 missing in eleven provinces, the National Commission for Disaster Reduction said last Friday. BEIJING, June 30 (Xinhua) -- The Party School of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, or the Central Party School, opened its door to more than 60 correspondents from domestic and overseas media on Wednesday, one day ahead of the 89th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, on July 1.It was the first time the country's highest institution for the training of high- and middle-level Party officials invited a large group of media workers from home and abroad to tour the mystery-shrouded campus in northwestern Beijing.Forty-two correspondents, photo journalists and TV reporters from major overseas media organizations - including the Associated Press, the Agence France-Presse, the Guardian, CNN and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation - participated.During the two-hour tour Wednesday afternoon, the group attended a press conference, a class and interviewed some teachers and students during their visit to the school's main teaching building, gymnasium, canteen and dormitory building."The Central Party School and the whole Party system haven't interacted much with the outside world -- this is something we are trying to change," said Li Baosheng, the school's vice president.The Party, founded July 1, 1921, is the world's largest political party. It had 78 million members as of last year."The Party system should open up to the outside world because the Party exists to serve the people and the Party has nothing to hide," Li said at the press conference.Some correspondents from overseas media interviewed by Xinhua said they had known nothing about the school before the tour.
