It's easier,” says Alejandra Martinez. She’s one of the employees at the Hotel del Coronado who has opted for the hotel's cross-border HMO health plan called SIMNSA, which is licensed by the State of California.“[Are you] saving like 60 to 80%?” we ask. “Oh, yes,” she responds.Christina Carrillo is the president and CEO of SIMNSA. The plan provides for ER and urgent care visits in the U.S., but for everything else like routine medical care and prescriptions, employees must go to Mexico.The company has a network of providers across the border. Drivers get a medical pass to avoid long border waits. The monthly savings can be significant.“From the studies that we have, a typical U.S.-based plan for a fully insured HMO product will charge over ,000.00 for a family to receive healthcare coverage. SIMNSA tells 10News that its doctors belong to the National College of Physicians. SIMNSA is building a new, private hospital in Tijuana.“The facilities that we own are first class,” says Carrillo.Several San Diego hotels, casinos and restaurants are offering the option to their employees. Currently, the plan is only open to Mexican nationals. "To all my fellow marines who gave their all the world is free because of you, God rest your soul."Up until now Nancy Lee lived a lifetime of not knowing - not knowing her older brother Staff Sergeant Wesley Kroenung, and not knowing what happened to him at war. "You can only imagine the sacrifice they made that day."Kroenung was a combat cameraman, just 25 years old when he died during the Battle of Tarawa, moments after landing. His remains left on the island, listed as unknown… leaving an irreparable wound for his father and family back home."He was never the same, I never knew him as a happy man. I know every family affected like this feels like this."But decades later Lee held onto hope for answers, submitting a DNA sample to the military. Not long after, the answers came in a phone call. "When I got that call, I'm so thankful and think of every family, the sis happening all over, every family now knowing the truth, and it means a whole lot."And now a proper homecoming for his final resting place. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Los Angeles-area mainstay could be making its San Diego debut by the end of the year.Plans for San Diego's first Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles are reportedly back on the table, 10News has learned.A contractor told 10News' Jon Horn the restaurant would be located on National Ave. in Barrio Logan. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local woman says a recent shopping trip turned into a nightmare, in the form of a sexual assault inside a 99 cent store in Clairemont.Around 7 p.m. on Thursday, inside a nearly empty 99 Cents Only store at Clairemont Town Square, Sarah was 30 minutes into a shopping trip. She recalls seeing the same man, as she walked through three different aisles."I didn't think anything of it. Just thought he was shopping for the same items," said Sarah.When Sarah bent down to get some poster board from a shelf, he attacked."He came from behind and forcefully shoved my shoulders into a seated position into his lap, and he had an erect groin," said Sarah.Sarah says she quickly got away from the man, who was fully clothed."I was shocked and gasped. Stood up and turned around, and he backed up. He said, 'Oh, sorry, I thought you were somebody I knew,'" said Sarah.Sarah describes the man as a thin, dark-haired man in his 20s, wearing a black mask and blue-and-white, checkered cap. She raced to find a store employee."I could see he was still stalking me. He was still peeking his head around the corner. When he saw me talking to an employee, he took off," said Sarah.She called the police and waited outside the front door to get a photo of him, but he never appeared. He likely got out a side door."I feel very violated. Just very violating," said Sarah.A day later, there is a growing fear and anxiety. After she posted details on the Nextdoor site, neighbors reported four recent and similar incidents at grocery and drug stores, all involving a man with a similar suspect description. Police tell us they're looking into a possible link to other cases."It's very scary he could potentially be doing this to women while they're shopping," said Sarah.Sarah is worried about what the man may do next."He's very brazen. I'm fearful he might up his ante and rape somebody," said Sarah.Sarah says the store manager confirmed there is an in-store video that will be given to the police. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new report shows that the San Diego Unified School District in 2017 saw significant grade-level gains in reading and math scores.The program, called the National Assessment of Education Progress, or NAEP, shows that San Diego is the only large urban district in the nation to see significant test score increases in fourth-grade reading and math.San Diego Unified also performed significantly higher than public schools in large cities in both fourth and eighth-grade math and reading.The 2017 results mitigate a significant score drop in fourth-grade math in 2015, which the district says is due to the implementation of Common Core.The district said Tuesday that long-term data shows a generally upward trend overall.“San Diego Unified stands out as a hub of academic excellence and innovation, where students learn and thrive thanks to the dedication of our teachers,” said Superintendent Cindy Marten. “The NAEP results underscore the incredible teaching and learning that’s occurring in San Diego Unified schools every day.” 1064
