SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency announced today a person at Patrick Henry High School was recently diagnosed with tuberculosis and may have exposed students and staff.The dates of exposure are from August 26, 2019, to March 13, 2020. The agency is working with San Diego Unified School District officials to notify those who were potentially exposed and provide TB testing.Patrick Henry High School is currently participating in social distancing protocols and onsite TB screening will not be available at the school. Identified students who may have been exposed to TB can get tested with their primary care provider. Students who do not have a medical provider may contact agency staff to arrange for free testing by appointment only.Identified staff will be provided testing by the San Diego Unified School District.Tuberculosis is transmitted from person to person through indoor air during prolonged contact with an infectious person. Most people who are exposed do not become infected.``Testing is recommended for everyone who was determined to have been exposed to make sure they are not infected, since initial infection typically has no symptoms,'' said Dr. Wilma Wooten, county public health officer. ``Early diagnosis is important so that people can get treatment and prevent them from developing the infectious form of the disease.''Symptoms of infectious tuberculosis include persistent cough, fever, night sweats and unexplained weight loss. People with symptoms of TB, or who are immune-compromised and may not show symptoms, should consult their medical provider to be evaluated for the bacteria. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The city of San Diego will begin enforcing parking regulations again starting Oct. 1 with a two-week grace period before full enforcement Oct. 15.The city temporarily suspended parking enforcement on March 16 following the COVID-19 stay-at-home order. Multiple attempts in the following months to reinforce parking regulations have been thwarted by ongoing shutdown orders.In developing a plan to restart parking enforcement, city staff consulted with several business groups representing communities across San Diego.Starting Thursday, the city will issue written warnings for vehicles parked in violation of:-- Posted street sweeping routes-- Metered parking restrictions-- Curb time limits-- Commercial zonesCitations will continue to be issued for vehicles parked illegally at red, white and blue painted curbs. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Police arrested a domestic violence suspect Friday morning after a standoff in La Mesa that temporarily blocked access to parts of Grossmont Center. The La Mesa and San Diego police departments responded to the situation at Grossmont Center Drive and Center Drive just before 8 a.m. Both streets were closed as officers worked to detain the suspect, La Mesa Police reported in a tweet.The situation started Thursday night when police received a call from the victim, saying she was choked by her ex-boyfriend at a residence on the 6800 block of Hyde Park Drive, San Diego police said.Police responded about 7:20 p.m. but the suspect already had fled in the girlfriend's car. Officers took a crime report and the victim was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital in Kearny Mesa as a precautionary measure.The suspect returned to the residence this morning and the victim called the police again, according to SDPD. The suspect then drove to Grossmont Center, where police found him around 7:30 a.m. The suspect was arrested at 8:19 a.m. and taken into custody.The streets in the area were reopened around 8:30 a.m., SDPD said. 1145

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego City Council will take a look at the Riverwalk San Diego project Tuesday, a proposed transit-oriented neighborhood development along the San Diego River in Mission Valley.International real estate firm Hines has proposed the 200-acre project, which is intended to transform the existing Riverwalk golf course into a neighborhood as well as restore the stretch of the San Diego River that runs through it.According to Hines, if the plan is approved Tuesday, the company plans to break ground during the second half of 2021.The San Diego Planning Commission recommended approval of Riverwalk San Diego project on Oct. 22 with five in favor, one abstention and one commissioner absent.The Hines plan includes 4,300 homes -- 10% of which are planned to be affordable housing -- a Metropolitan Transit System Green Line trolley stop, 152,000-square-feet of retail space, 1 million square feet of office space, 100 acres of parks and new bike and pedestrian paths, including an extension of the San Diego River Trail."I think it could be something to set the standard for what transit- oriented development can look like," said San Diego Planning Commissioner Vicki Granowitz.The Riverwalk plan, established through a partnership between Hines and the Levi-Cushman family landowners, incorporates community input gathered over several years by the Hines team in nearly 100 stakeholder and community planning group meetings."We appreciate that the planning commissioners recognized the extensive community outreach and collaboration that helped form our plan and the care we're taking to create an environmentally responsible, transit- oriented legacy project for San Diego," said Eric Hepfer, managing director at Hines. 1754

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - One of four men who pleaded guilty in connection with last year's shotgun slaying of a Pacific Beach resident was sentenced Friday to eight years in state prison.Freddy Sosa, 38, was sentenced for his role in the Dec. 29, 2018, death of 44-year-old MarcAnthony Mendivil, who was killed in a home in the 2300 block of Wilbur Avenue.Sosa's co-defendants, Carlos Yslas, 25; Pedro Ramirez, 28; and Paul Charles Weinberger, 51, await sentencing.
