Amid the NHL, NBA, MLB, college basketball, XFL, MLS, PGA Tour and NASCAR suspending operations due to the spread of coronavirus, one pro sports league is pushing forward: The Professional Bowlers Association. This weekend is the tour's PBA World Championship, which is being held in Las Vegas. Although the competition will go on this weekend, it is doing so under a heavily-modified schedule. The event was originally slated to air next Wednesday. Instead, the finals will air live Sunday at 1:30 p.m. ET on FS1. The championship will also be played without spectator, except for family and tour officials. "The last-minute changes have been made out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of players, family members and tournament officials. International travel restrictions that may impact a number of World Series competitors also played a role in PBA’s decisions," the PBA said. This weekend's championship is one of five majors the PBA has annually. The bowlers participating in the championship will be Jason Belmonte, EJ Tackett, Anthony Simonsen, Francois Lavoie and Chris Via. 1109

A recent drug bust in Southern California yielded 18 pounds of fentanyl, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department. According to authorities, that's enough fentanyl for 4 million fatal doses, or enough to overdose every single person in Orange County.Police say the threat of fentanyl is increasing exponentially. Orange County authorities "have seized more than 100 pounds of the deadly drug, setting the pace to more than double fentanyl seizures for the third year," according to a news release.Fentanyl is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine, making even small amounts incredibly deadly."The threat this extremely potent drug poses to our community is increasing exponentially, not subsiding," Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes said in a news release.According to the California Department of Health, statewide fentanyl deaths increased 614 percent from 2014 to 2018, jumping from 104 to 743 deaths. California's figures mirror a similar national uptick of fentanyl deaths. Among the more than 70,200 drug overdose deaths estimated in 2017, the sharpest increase occurred among deaths related to fentanyl and fentanyl analogs (other synthetic narcotics) with more than 28,400 overdose deaths, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The drug seizure in Orange County on October 16 that produced 18 pounds of fentanyl, which has a street value of .25 million, also yielded 5 pounds of heroin and half a pound of methamphetamine. Police also seized a loaded semi-automatic handgun and ,000 in cash. 1557

But her wide-eyed reaction made it seem like she had just heard the most beautiful symphony ever composed, or a salacious piece of gossip. 369

A member of the Minneapolis City Council revealed this week that he and several other council members are working on finding out what it would take to disband the Minneapolis Police Department. The announcement from Councilmember Steve Fletcher comes a week after George Floyd died while in police custody in Minneapolis. During an appearance on CNN on Wednesday, he called the city’s police department “ungovernable.”"The department is ungovernable,” Fletcher said. “Chief (Medaria) Arradondo is a leader that we've all had very high hopes in and that I imagined could play a role in envisioning the next version of public safety. But he has clearly not been able to make the culture change happen that we were hoping for and investing in.”What it would take to disband the department is unclear. But what is clear is that the department is already seeing a reduced role in the protection of the city. On Wednesday, the Minneapolis Park Board voted to terminate its relationship with the department, and the Minneapolis Police will no longer be involved in guarding events on park property.Fletcher said in a Twitter post that it’s time to “declare policing as we know it a thing of the past.”“Our city needs a public safety capacity that doesn’t fear our residents,” Fletcher said. “That doesn’t need a gun at a community meeting. That considers itself part of our community. That doesn’t resort quickly to pepper spray when people are understandably angry. That doesn’t murder black men.”Despite tensions among the community, a number of leaders from the black community spoke up to defend Arradondo, according to 1629
