SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A heartbroken woman is making a plea for tips after hundreds of family heirlooms were stolen out of her Allied Gardens home.Last Friday afternoon, Mary Anne Madruga got a wrenching call from her husband."Just a moment of disbelief and shock. Am I really hearing what I think I'm hearing?" said Madruga.During a two-and-a-half-hour window when nobody was home, somebody had pried open a back window and made off with hundreds of pieces of jewelry, silver and coins, including more than a hundred pieces of jewelry belonging to her mother, who died of cancer.MAP: Track crime in your neighborhood"On the last birthday of mine before she passed, she gave me a gold and diamond necklace ... and that piece really held a special meaning for me," said Madruga.But perhaps the most painful loss: the more than 10 pieces her artist father - who has also passed - made for her mother.A neighbor's surveillance camera captured him walking up to her home empty-handed. 25 minutes later, he's spotted again, toting a stuffed pillowcase Madruga says belongs to her."It just leaves a hole ... a hole in my heart ... items with special meaning I'm not going to see again," said Madruga.Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 888-580-8477. 1269

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Harley-Davidson owner is hoping for leads after his motorcycle disappeared from a mall parking lot in Mission Valley.Sebastian Rudi, who works at Westfield Mission Valley, was expecting to see his newly purchased 2002 Harley after his shift ended around 10 p.m. Saturday. Instead the bike that was parked in the underground lot, feet from the ramp into the mall, was gone."A little panic ... mixture of anger and pure disappointment," said Rudi.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodThat may actually an understatement. The ,000 bike he bought in April was his pride and joy."I spent my entire life wanting a Harley. Spent every cent to my name on a Harley. Everything that I had going for me was pretty much relying on that bike and now it's gone," said Rudi.Gone and with few clues. He says the few cameras in the area don't face where his bike was parked. According to Crimemapping.com, it's the second vehicle theft since January.At Fashion Valley mall, there have been 11 vehicle thefts in the immediate area since December. Rudi points out thieves must love one fact about the vehicles of many shoppers and workers."They know it's going to be there for awhile, throughout the day," said Rudi.Rudi regrets not immediately installing all the security he planed, including wheel locks and a GPS locator. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local casting director making it big in Hollywood after signing stars for a movie hitting theaters Friday.The movie, The Last Full Measure, is based on soldier William H. Pitsenbarger, Jr. who rescued more than 60 men during the Vietnam War. Casting Director Iris Hampton fell in love with the script the first time she read it, "I couldn't put it down, it was so beautiful." She was born and raised in San Diego in a military family and married a Marine Veteran, bringing the plot close to home.Hampton got into the business during a vacation to Hawaii. She said she went to the Magnum P.I. office and asked if they needed any help, "they said not right now, but why don't you come back in three months? So I came home, packed my bags and I went."Since then she's worked with big names like Chuck Norris and the Power Rangers. "I am going on my 28th and 29th season of that show," she said referring to the Power Rangers.Seven years ago she signed on to The Last Full Measure. The movie follows Pitsenbarger, Jr. during Operation Abilene in the Vietnam War. He descended from a helicopter while troops were under fire and rescued as many as he could, before he was killed.The film then follows the men who worked for decades to get Pitsenbarger, Jr. the Medal of Honor. "It ended up being 32 years they fought for him to get the medal of honor," she said."Pitts was a hero and a legend," Hampton said paratroopers idolize him.With a deep love and respect for the military, Hampton said this project is the pinnacle of her career.She signed stars like Samuel L. Jackson, Sebastian Stan, Jeremy Irvine,Christopher Plummer, Ed Harris and the late Peter Fonda for the movie."I was just so proud and I am just so proud of each and every one of them," she said she can't wait for the movie to hit theaters so San Diegans can see it. 1856

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A judge is expected to decide whether to release a sexually violent predator into the Jacumba Hot Springs area.Joseph Bocklett, a convicted repeat sex offender, had a placement hearing Monday morning. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, it was held virtually. ABC 10News wasn’t given permission to record it, but we did monitor what happened inside of the courtroom.The Department of State Hospitals wants to put the 75-year-old Bocklett in a home in Jacumba -- after a Judge denied a proposal to move him into a home in Pauma Valley.Bocklett was convicted of three sexual offenses over a 19-year period involving victims between the ages of 4 and 9, according to the San Diego County District Attorney's Office. He was last sentenced in 2000 to a 17-year prison term and later civilly committed to Coalinga State Hospital to undergo treatment.Though the public wasn’t allowed to physically be inside of he courtroom, they’ve been working to make sure their voices are heard, protesting this recommendation.They have got pages of signatures from residents in the East County. A few of them gathered near the courthouse holding signs expressing their concerns about the possibility of another sex offender being placed in their community.Among that group Melissa Woodall and her daughter. Woodall said rural East County shouldn’t always be the first choice when it comes to placing sexually violent predators.Woodall said, "It’s awful, it really is. There are so many people who have been put into our community who are predators.”The judge says he’ll take a few days to review the letter that were submitted and the testimony that was given before he makes his decision. 1696

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new report is shedding light on what the typical million home looks like in San Diego. According to Zillow, million in San Diego can buy a single-family home that has 2,410 square feet, four bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. Families in Chula Vista can get more for their money, where million can buy a 3,890 square foot home with five bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. RELATED: City fee could be making rents higher in smaller unitsIn contrast, the same amount of money in San Francisco can only buy a one bedroom condo with less than 900 square feet. On a slightly lighter note, million can typically buy a 1,900 square foot, three bedroom, two bathroom home in Los Angeles, Zillow reports. In the U.S., the typical million home is a detached single-family house with about 2,200 square feet with four bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. "Owning a million home was once a status symbol, but now, due to escalating home prices, it feels closer to the price of entry for homeownership in parts of the country,” said Cheryl Young, senior economist at Zillow.RELATED: Study examines San Diego's 'affordability crisis'That million price tag will go furthest is El Paso, Texas, where million will allow buyers to purchase a more than 7,000 square foot home with five bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms.
