ISTANBUL, Turkey, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese and Turkish business people signed 19 contracts here Friday on the purchase of Turkish commodities worth about 230 million U.S. dollars.     Visiting China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin attended the signing ceremony after the Sino-Turkish economic and trade cooperation forum which was attended by government officials and business people from the two countries.     Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said in his speech delivered at the forum that China and Turkey should make further plans on the future development of bilateral economic and trade cooperation.     China-Turkey trade volume exceeded 10 billion U.S. dollars last year and the figure for this year is expected to reach 13 billion U.S. dollars.     He called on business people from both countries to make joint efforts to further tap cooperation potentials, increase mutual investment, expand cooperation in infrastructure construction and project engineering, and enhance multi-lateral economic and trade cooperation. BEIJING, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- China's first non-governmental community foundation, the Arcadia Public Welfare Foundation, was launched at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Saturday.     The foundation was established with 100 million yuan (about 14.65 million U.S. dollars) donated by Shenzhen Airtown (Eastern) Industrial Co. Ltd. and Shenzhen Arcadia Real Estate Group.     "In the past, it was largely the government that took care of China's communities, but now social groups are playing a vigorous part," said Wang Jinhua, an official in charge of community construction of the Ministry of Civil Affairs.     Arcadia, a residential community built on landfill in Shenzhen, the city that was China's window of reform and opening-up, has received domestic and overseas habitat awards since 2005.     Li Aijun, board chairman of the Shenzhen Arcadia Real Estate Group, said the foundation planned to provide financial aid for community welfare projects, such as senior citizens' housing, schools, recreation facilities and environmental protection teams.     The first project will help a local hospital improve community health care and provide free exams.

BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Strengthening relations between China and the European Union (EU) will contribute to the world peace, stability and prosperity amid complicated international situations, Chinese President Hu Jintao said here on Thursday.     The significance of Sino-EU relations has surpassed the bilateral level and is of more and more international significance, Hu said during his meeting with European Commission President Jose Manuel Durao Barroso, who is here to attend the seventh Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) to be held on Friday and Saturday. BEIJING, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government vowed to beef up vocational training for migrant workers, college graduates and laid-off workers, who were badly hit by the global financial crisis, to help them land jobs, according to a joint circular issued by three ministries.     Local government should offer the migrant workers necessary training to help them find jobs in the railway and infrastructure construction, power sector and rebuilding of the quake-hit areas, according to the joint circular issued by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.     Vocational schools and technical training institutions should enhance training for people who were affected by the crisis, and work out programs to help them find new jobs, said the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security on Sunday.     China's urban unemployment rate was 4.2 percent at the end of 2008, up 0.2 percentage points year on year, according to official figures.
