The CDC says at least 21 people across 13 states have been infected with the outbreak strain Salmonella Oranienburg, seven of which have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported though. “Epidemiologic and traceback evidence” indicate that contact with pet turtles is the likely source of the outbreak, according to the CDC. The agency says 12 of 17 ill people interviewed reported coming in contact with red-eared sliders and other turtles that were larger than four inches in length.The CDC says illnesses started on dates ranging from May 29 to Sept. 3. Ill people range in age from less than one year old to 80 years old, with the median age being 24. Turtles can carry Salmonella germs in their droppings while appearing healthy and clean. The CDC says those germs can easily spread to their bodies, tank water and habitats. People can get sick after they touch a turtle or anything in their habitats. John Bel Edwards will narrowly win reelection, beating out Republican challenger Eddie Rispone, CNN projected Saturday night.Edwards will claim victory in a deep red state President Donald Trump won by 20 percentage points in 2016, and against a businessman who closely aligned himself with the President. Trump held two rallies in Louisiana over the past 10 days, but the attempt at a last-minute boost was not enough to carry Rispone over the finish line.Last month, Edwards was forced into a runoff election after falling short of the majority vote needed to clinch reelection. He was the top vote getter (47%) in the jungle primary in which all candidates, regardless of party affiliation, ran against each other. Rispone got 27% of the vote, Republican Ralph Abraham got 24%, and Republican Patrick Landry got 1%.Edwards, 53, is the only statewide elected Democrat in Louisiana. He has accomplished the national Democratic priority of expanding Medicaid, but has been far to the right of his party on some social issues -- including abortion rights and gun control. Braxton Ryback, 25, and Johnny Young, 22, were recently arrested by Las Vegas police after threatening to shoot up the XS Nightclub at Wynn Las Vegas.The incident happened Aug. 10. Police were told that Ryback and Young were shouting "White privilege, white power, we are white supremacist" and locking their fists like they were going to hit people. Police were also told that the men told security that they were going to come back and shoot the place up. Young then allegedly returned to the hotel-casino with pepper spray.During an interview with police, Young told police that he had a weapon in his vehicle at the Wynn and another weapon in his apartment. He also told police that Ryback spent time on a website called "Daily Stormer" and that he shared Ryback's beliefs. Young also told police that he was drunk and angry at security because they had stopped him from taking photos of security cameras but he never had any intention of hurting someone.
