DETROIT — A dispensary in Detroit has launched a service that brings marijuana directly to its customer's door.Utopia Gardens LLC launched a delivery service for patients approved to purchase medical marijuana."Some of our patients are sick and going through chemotherapy, etc; so it’s a more convenient way for them to be able to shop without having to leave their houses," said dispensary manager Donnell Cravens.According to the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, three licensed dispensaries or provisioning centers are now able to provide a delivery service service legally: Utopia Gardens LLC in Detroit, Lake Effect Group LLC in Portage, and BotaniQ in Detroit.Patients are required to have their medical marijuana card verified and the product can only be delivered to the address on the card.“This was easier than placing an online order through Amazon, not gonna lie to you," said Rashon Massey, one of the first patients to use the new service.Think of it like Grubhub or Uber Eats, only for weed.“This is exciting. I have chronic pain so I can’t always leave the house. I have a small business so this convenience is everything for me," Massey said.The delivery normally takes around 45 minutes to arrive.Customers ordering within Wayne County, which houses Detroit, must place an order of in order to be eligible for delivery. COLORADO — Riders on rentable scooters getting them from Point A to Point B around cities in America may not be thinking about something big: The germs.When our reporters talked to folks riding on them, they guessed the handles could be pretty germ-ridden.Our reporters looked at public bikes, too, and did some swab tests, which were taken to a lab. The goal was to find out what bacteria may be found on the scooters.The team tested for stapholococous, E. coli, general bacteria levels, yeast and mold.The results were surprising.“My initial action was surprise,” said Microbiologist Helene Ver Ecke, of Metro State University. She knows all about bacteria."Some were a lot cleaner and some were a lot dirtier,” Ver Ecke said of the tests.One group of scooters had:? 700 bacteria colonies? No E. coli or strep? Lower levels of mold and yeast where presentAnother group showed:? 12,000 bacteria colonies (highest in all of our tests)? "You have normal yeasts and molds on our hands we ingest yeast and mold, that's what makes us bread and beer and all kinds of things. So not all fungus are bad,” Ver Ecke said.The tests make the germ issue seem pretty bad, but there is bacteria everywhere, and it’s not all bad, she said.People were surprised there wasn’t more bacteria.Ver Ecke said it’s because there isn’t food present, which would provide moisture for bacteria to feed on. The bacteria is probably going away pretty quickly, she said."The variation that we've seen may be indicative of how long a time period it was since the last person rode it,” Ver Ecke said.Cleaning it off may be a waste of time, she said. Carrying a lethal weapon onto church property was considered "inappropriate" under the policies of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Now, it's prohibited.The tweaked language can be seen in the church's "Handbook 2," which says: "Churches are dedicated for the worship of God and as havens from the cares and concerns of the world. With the exception of current law enforcement officers, the carrying of lethal weapons on church property, concealed or otherwise, is prohibited."The previous rule said the carrying of lethal weapons was inappropriate.Lethal weapons include a number of possible items including guns, said Daniel Woodruff,a spokesman for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.The handbook update took effect in the first week of August, Woodruff said, but the change will be formally communicated to local Church leaders as new meetinghouse safety guidelines in the near future.Those leaders will then be responsible for sharing the guidelines with their members, he added.The change applies to the entire church, but due to a Texas law change regarding firearms in places of worship, a letter referencing the prohibition was recently sent to church leaders in Texas and shared with members, Woodruff said.Next month, a new law will go into effect in Texas which will allow licensed handgun owners to legally carry their weapons in places of worship.It's one of a string of new firearm laws that will take effect across Texas next month, further loosening gun restrictions in a state that already has some of the most lax weapons laws in the nation.One of those laws will disallow school districts from prohibiting licensed gun owners -- including school employees -- from storing a firearm or ammunition in a locked vehicle on a school parking lot, as long as they're not in plain view. DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (WESH) — A 19-year-old Florida waitress is recovering in a hospital after she jumped off a Daytona Beach pier to save an 8-year-old child caught in a rip current.Hanna Pignato was working on the rooftop deck of Joe's Crab Shack just before 8 p.m. Saturday when she saw a boy struggling in the water.Pignato ran downstairs, gave a customer her apron, phone and personal belongings then went in after the boy.She says she had to act as she watched the child being pulled farther and farther out, barely keeping his head above water. The child’s mother was shouting for help.When she dove about 20 feet into the water, she hit a sand bar and broke bones in her back and foot and had to be rescued as well."Right when I jumped I was like, 'I'm done.' Right when I hit the bottom floor, it was like maybe 2 feet, 3 feet," said Pignato. "I'm a good swimmer, so I was like I can get to this kid, but I should have walked down to the pier a little bit more and done it so much better."In those panicked moments, Pignato says the rough surf may have led her to misjudge the depth. But ultimately, she said there was really no time to think about her actions.Pignato is recovering in the hospital following surgery on her foot.The child was saved by bystanders and beach safety officers.
